Prof. Dr. Sonu Goel from Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health at the PGIMER, Chandigarh has become the first Indian to receive the prestigious Annual Mira Aghi Award for LMIC Research, conferred by the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to nicotine and tobacco research, tobacco cessation, public health, and tobacco control.

Leading the initiative, Dr. Nancy Sahni, Chief Dietitian, Department of Dietetics as well as Chandigarh chapter secretary, NSI and IAPEN, highlighted the critical link between the right kind of nutrition and kidney health, and importance of maintaining a delicate balance of nutrients.

The Director, Prof. Dr. Vivek Lal has always been a strong proponent of outreach campaigns for promoting public health. The Department of Nephrology therefore undertook a community outreach interactive initiative to spread awareness about kidney health.

Dr. Sonu Goel has been appointed as the State Convener for Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh by the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS).
