94 Allottees/Owners Avail Facilitation at CHB Public Camp for Conversion of Leasehold Properties into Freehold

Chandigarh, September 11, 2026: The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is organising a Public Camp for the facilitation and convenience of allottees/owners desirous of converting their leasehold properties into freehold. The camp is being held from 10.09.2026 to 25.09.2026, on all working days, from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Hall, 6th Floor, Chandigarh Housing Board, Sector 9-D, Chandigarh.

During the first two days of the camp, 94 allottees/owners of dwelling units residencial properties from various areas visited the camp and interacted with the officials of the Chandigarh Housing Board regarding their queries relating to conversion of their leasehold properties into freehold.

The officials of CHB provided necessary guidance and clarification to the visitors regarding the conversion process, applicable charges/dues, documentation and other related issues. The initiative has received a positive response from the public and is aimed at making the conversion process more convenient and accessible to allottees/owners.

Allottees/owners are advised to attend the camp along with copies of their Allotment Letter/Transfer Deed, latest payment receipts, proof of identity and address, and other relevant documents for processing of their conversion cases. They may also check the applicable conversion charges/dues, if any, through the CHB portal www.chbonline.in before attending the camp, to facilitate expeditious processing of their applications.

The Engineering Department, U.T., Chandigarh has commenced the recarpeting work of major roads in the city with effect from today

CHANDIGARH, 11.09.26-y,The Engineering Department, U.T., Chandigarh has commenced the recarpeting work of major roads in the city with effect from today as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the road infrastructure and provide smooth, safe and comfortable road surfaces to commuters.

The recarpeting work has been started on Dakshin Marg, Purv Marg and Sarangpur Road. The work is being taken up in a planned and phased manner, keeping in view the condition of the existing road surface, traffic movement and the requirements of the respective stretches.

The Engineering Department has been undertaking road improvement works on priority to ensure better riding quality, enhanced road safety and improved overall connectivity across Chandigarh. The recarpeting works will also help in addressing surface deficiencies and deterioration caused due to prolonged use and weather conditions.

The Department has directed the concerned officers and field staff to closely monitor the quality and progress of the works and to ensure that the recarpeting is executed as per the prescribed specifications and within the stipulated timelines.

The Engineering Department has also appealed to the general public to cooperate during the execution of the works and to follow traffic diversions, barricading and other safety arrangements put in place at the work sites, wherever required.

Reservation of Wards Determined for General Election to Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, September 11, 2026: The General Election to all 35 wards of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, is required to be held before the expiry of the term of the present House on January 7, 2027.

In this regard, the State Election Commissioner, U.T. Chandigarh, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under the relevant law and in accordance with the procedure prescribed by the Chandigarh Administration, determined the wards to be reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes, women belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Women (General) for the ensuing General Election to the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

The reservation proceedings were conducted during a meeting held today at the U.T. State Guest House, Sector 6, Chandigarh, in the presence of representatives of recognised national political parties, members of the general public and officers of the Chandigarh Administration.

The proceedings were presided over by the State Election Commissioner, U.T. Chandigarh, Dr. Vijay Dev, in the presence of Shri Harpreet Singh Sudan, Special Commissioner, Municipal Corporation; Shri Amandeep Singh Bhatti, ADC; Ms. Isha Kamboj, Joint Secretary, Local Government; and representatives of various political parties.

The wards reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates were determined in descending order based on the highest percentage of Scheduled Caste population in each ward, as per the published Census 2011 data. The seven wards reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates during the General Election to the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, held in December 2021 were excluded from the exercise.

Of the seven wards reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates, three wards were reserved for women belonging to the Scheduled Castes through a draw of lots. Similarly, nine wards were reserved for Women (General) through a draw of lots after excluding the wards reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates for the 2026 election and those reserved for Women (General) during the 2021 Municipal Corporation election.

As determined under the prescribed procedure, Ward Nos. 1, 3, 4, 9, 15, 29 and 32 have been reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. These include Ward Nos. 3, 29 and 32, which have been reserved for women belonging to the Scheduled Castes.

Ward Nos. 2, 8, 11, 13, 17, 21, 25, 26 and 30 have been reserved for Women (General).

The remaining 19 wards—Ward Nos. 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 31, 33, 34 and 35—have been declared General wards.

First-of-its-Kind Mother–Child Badminton Tournament for Children with Special Needs Concludes in Chandigarh

All 24 participating pairs honoured as champions

Chandigarh, September 11, 2026: The Department of School Education, Chandigarh, successfully organised a three-day Mother–Child Badminton Tournament for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, Chandigarh, from September 9 to 11, 2026.

The first-of-its-kind initiative concluded today in the presence of Shri Nitish Singla, Director School Education, U.T. Chandigarh, who attended the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Appreciating the initiative, Shri Singla said that the tournament was not merely a sporting event but also conveyed a meaningful message of inclusive education, family participation and encouragement. He observed that sports can bring children and their families together while helping develop confidence, coordination and a spirit of participation.

Acknowledging the continuous care and commitment of mothers towards their children, he said that every participating mother and child deserved appreciation. He assured that the Department would continue to promote family-centred and inclusive initiatives in the future.

During the ceremony, Shri Singla presented trophies and certificates to all 24 participating mother–child pairs. In keeping with the inclusive spirit of the tournament, every pair was recognised as a champion, with no second or third positions.

Badminton was chosen as it provides an engaging way to encourage physical activity and improve hand–eye coordination among children. The initiative also celebrated the special bond between mothers and children and recognised the important role played by mothers as caregivers, guides and sources of constant support.

The tournament was organised by Samagra Shiksha and the Inclusive Education Wing, Chandigarh, under the coordination of Shri Rajpal Singh, Nodal Officer, CWSN Sports.

A total of 24 pairs, comprising 48 players, participated in the concluding stage of the tournament.
