MC Commissioner conducts surprise inspection of SPCA, reviews animal care and welfare services

Chandigarh, August 4:- In a bid to further strengthen animal welfare services, the Commissioner MC Chandigarh, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, conducted a surprise inspection of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) building to review the quality of facilities and services being provided to stray dogs and injured animals.

During the inspection, the Commissioner thoroughly assessed the availability of medicines, quality of food, cleanliness, hygiene and the overall upkeep of the SPCA premises. He also reviewed the treatment and care being provided to rescued and injured animals. The inspection found the facilities to be well-maintained, with adequate stocks of medicines, proper feeding arrangements and satisfactory standards of sanitation and hygiene.

Sh. Amit Kumar emphasized that the welfare of stray and injured animals remains a priority for the Municipal Corporation and directed the concerned officials to maintain the existing standards while striving for continuous improvement in veterinary care and animal rehabilitation services. He stressed the importance of ensuring timely treatment, compassionate care and a clean environment for every animal brought to the SPCA.

The Commissioner was accompanied by Special Commissioner Sh. Harpreet Singh Sudan, IAS, Joint Commissioner Sh. Balbir Raj Singh, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Inderdeep Kaur and other officials of the Municipal Corporation during the inspection.

Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar donates sports kits to ‘Khel Ka Uphaar, Nashe Par Prahar’ campaign

Chandigarh, August 4:- Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, MC Chandigarh today contributed sports kits to the ‘Khel Ka Uphaar, Nashe Par Prahar’ campaign, which aims to engage young people in sports and keep them away from drugs. He handed over the kits to campaign convener Sanjeev Rana.

The Commissioner said drug addiction is not merely the problem of an individual or a family but a serious challenge confronting society as a whole. Along with spreading awareness, it is essential to engage young people in sports, education and other constructive activities to protect them from drugs.
He said the ‘Khel Ka Uphaar, Nashe Par Prahar’ campaign is a commendable initiative that provides sporting equipment to underprivileged young people and gives their lives a positive direction.

He said Sports not only make young people physically and mentally stronger but also help develop discipline, self-confidence, leadership abilities and team spirit.
“If every capable person in society takes responsibility for connecting even one underprivileged youngster with sports, we can build a powerful people’s movement against drugs. Every contribution to this campaign is an important step towards safeguarding the life and future of a young person,” Commissioner said.

Campaign convener Sanjeev Rana expressed gratitude to Municipal Commissioner and said the involvement of a senior administrative officer in the campaign sends an inspiring message to society. His support will strengthen the campaign and encourage others to contribute to the collective fight against drugs.

Sanjeev Rana said the ‘Khel Ka Uphaar, Nashe Par Prahar’ initiative is not merely a sports-equipment distribution programme but a people’s campaign aimed at protecting the lives and future of the youth. Through this initiative, sports equipment is being provided to underprivileged young people in slum, rural and border areas to help keep them away from drugs.
