Approval granted for new “Machhonda Sub-Division” in Ambala- Energy Minister Anil Vij

All areas across the Delhi railway line to come under the new Machhonda Sub-Division – Anil Vij

“Electricity Complaint Center” to open soon in Industrial Area, Ambala Cantonment – Vij

Chandigarh, May 24 — Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij said that he is committed to providing better facilities to electricity consumers, and in this direction, approval has now been granted for the establishment of a new “Machhonda Sub-Division” in Ambala Cantonment to strengthen electricity services in the area.

Energy Minister Anil Vij said that the office of the Machhonda Sub-Division will be opened soon, and all areas on the Machhonda side of the Ambala–Delhi railway line will come under the jurisdiction of the new sub-division. He informed that all formalities required for opening the new sub-division have already been completed.

Sh. Vij said that the creation of the new sub-division will benefit thousands of electricity consumers residing in areas located across the Delhi railway line, including Machhonda, Chandrapuri, Sundernagar, Shahpur, Shivala Mandi, Sai Ka Bagh, Gulab Mandi, Dudhla Mandi, Himmatpura, PNT Colony, Village Bara and several adjoining villages and localities. Staff will be deployed in the new sub-division, and residents of these areas will no longer have to travel several kilometers to reach Ambala Cantonment Sub-Division No. 1 for electricity-related work.

It is noteworthy that until now, the areas proposed to be included under the Machhonda Sub-Division were linked with Sub-Division No. 1 located at 12 Cross Road. Residents had to cross the GT Road and travel long distances for resolving electricity-related issues. However, due to the efforts of Energy Minister Anil Vij, a dedicated sub-division is now being established in Machhonda itself, which will provide major convenience to local residents. Electricity bill-related work, complaints, and other consumer services will now be handled nearby at the Machhonda Sub-Division office itself.

“Electricity Complaint Center” to open soon in Industrial Area, Ambala Cantonment – Energy Minister Anil Vij

Energy Minister Anil Vij further said that an “Electricity Complaint Center” in the Industrial Area of Ambala Cantonment is almost ready and will become operational soon. The center will provide facilities related to electricity complaints, billing services, complaint registration, complaint resolution vehicles, and staff support for the area. He said that the establishment of this center will greatly benefit industries located in the Industrial Area, and their electricity-related grievances will be resolved promptly.

It is worth mentioning that the Industrial Area currently falls under Sub-Division No. 2, whose office is located at 12 Cross Road. As a result, industrialists had to travel long distances for complaint resolution and other electricity-related work. However, once the new complaint center becomes operational, all such issues will be addressed directly within the Industrial Area itself.

*“A piece of our heart remains in the institution where we studied, and it keeps pulling us back”-says Energy Minister Anil Vij*

*Alumni Meet 2026: Minister Anil Vij revisits memories of college days and shares nostalgic experiences*

*Energy Minister Anil Vij attends ‘SDians Yaadein’ alumni gathering; contributes Rs 10 lakh from his discretionary fund*

Chandigarh, May 24 — Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij said that when students complete their education and move forward in life, a piece of their heart always remains in the educational institution where they studied. He said that no matter where life takes them, those memories continue to draw them back from time to time. That is why alumni reunions feel as though the hands of time begin to move backwards.

Sh. Vij was addressing the gathering late yesterday evening at the “SDians Yaadein” Alumni Meet 2026 organised at Sanatan Dharma College. Former students, teachers and current students enthusiastically participated in the event and made it memorable. On the occasion, Energy Minister Anil Vij also announced a contribution of Rs 10 lakh from his discretionary fund for the organising committee.

Recalling his college days, Sh. Vij said that the memories of time spent in college, the education received, friendships formed and guidance from teachers remain unforgettable throughout life. Describing the college as a “marketplace of dreams,” he said that every student who enters the institution carries aspirations and ambitions — some wish to become doctors, some engineers, while others dream of becoming teachers or professionals.

He said that with the guidance of teachers, many students achieve what they had envisioned, while others may take different paths in life. Yet, every student leaves the institution transformed in some meaningful way.

Energy Minister Anil Vij shared that he himself had been a student of the college. He completed his matriculation in 1968, after which his parents admitted him to SD College. He described himself as an average student who, however, never failed in examinations. He said that when he joined the college, he had no clear idea about what he wanted to become in life and had never imagined entering politics.

Recalling his student life, he mentioned Mathematics Professor Gopal Krishna, who had close connections with students and introduced him to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) shakha activities. Later, he became the General Secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the college. Even after leaving college, he continued working with various affiliated organisations and remained actively involved in election campaigns and public activities.

Sh. Vij said that in 1990, after Sushma Swaraj was elected to the Rajya Sabha, he was asked to resign from his bank job and contest elections during what he described as the “Green Brigade era,” a period when contesting elections from Ambala Cantonment was considered extremely challenging. Following the party’s instructions, he resigned from his bank job, contested the election, and won. He emotionally recited lines expressing how life unexpectedly took him into politics: “I set out for somewhere unknown, Reached somewhere else without realizing it; Even now my wandering footsteps Do not fully know their destination.”

Sh. Vij said that wherever circumstances placed him, he never turned his back on challenges. He added that he was born in Ambala Cantonment, studied there, and breathed the air of the city throughout his life, and therefore remains forever indebted to the people of the city — a debt he said could never be repaid even in a hundred lifetimes.

*Development works in Ambala Cantonment carried out because of people’s trust – Vij*

Energy Minister Anil Vij said that the extensive development works carried out in Ambala Cantonment have only been possible because of the support and trust of the people. He said that he has won elections from the constituency seven times because people repose complete faith in him, and it is this trust that gives him the courage to take on major challenges and work tirelessly for development.

Highlighting key projects, Sh. Vij said that a grand Shaheed Smarak (Martyrs’ Memorial) dedicated to the First War of Independence of 1857 is being constructed in Ambala Cantonment. He remarked that the brave martyrs who ignited the first flame of India’s freedom struggle had long remained forgotten. However, historical research later revealed that the uprising in Ambala Cantonment had begun nearly ten hours before the revolt in Meerut. He said that the memorial being built in their honour would be unique in the entire country and would stand as a national monument.

He further said that Ambala Cantonment has consistently honoured national heroes and freedom fighters. A statue of Subhas Chandra Bose has been installed at Subhash Park, while a statue of Bhagat Singh has been installed at the SDM office complex. Sh. Vij also highlighted several other development projects completed in Ambala Cantonment, including an international-level swimming pool, a FIFA-approved football stadium, modern gymnastics and badminton halls, Bank Square, and several public infrastructure projects.

Encouraging the organisers, he said that such alumni gatherings should be expanded further, as students from this very institution are today serving in prestigious positions across the country and abroad.

Among those present on the occasion were Dr. Vijay Sharma, College Principal Dr. Alka Sharma, Dr. Desh Bandhu, Dinesh Sethi, Ramit Salwan, Dr. Sushil Kansal, Harinder Singh, Madhusudan Tandon, Alumni Association President Dr. Desh Bandhu, Vice President Dr. Vinay Malhotra, General Secretary Dr. Vijay Sharma, Secretary Dr. Aarti Arora and several other distinguished guests.
