Chandigarh, 27 April: The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with the Department of Home Science, organised a workshop titled ‘Hastkala’ at the Anganwadi-cum-Creche, Sector 42 B, Chandigarh.
The workshop aimed to foster creativity and promote skill development among participants through hands-on exposure to contemporary art forms. The initiative sought to encourage women, particularly from community settings, to explore avenues for self-reliance and enhanced employability.

The session was conducted by Dr. Rati Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science at the college. Dr. Rati provided step-by-step guidance to nearly 20 participants, primarily mothers of young children. The participants were introduced to embroidery techniques and the process of block painting, enabling them to acquire practical craftsmanship skills. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation, with attendees engaging wholeheartedly in the activities and expressing keen interest in learning new skills. The initiative proved to be a well-structured effort toward empowering women by equipping them with creative competencies that can potentially translate into livelihood opportunities.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the efforts of the organising team and highlighted the importance of such outreach programmes in fostering community engagement and women’s empowerment.
