Chandigarh, 25 February: Paramjit Singh Kainth, State Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Caste Morcha, Punjab, has termed the brutal killing of two Punjab Police personnel at a police post near the International Border in Gurdaspur district as extremely tragic and serious. He stated that this is not merely an attack on law and order, but a direct strike on the internal security of a sensitive border state. He paid tribute to the martyred personnel and expressed deep condolences to their bereaved families.
Supporting the stand taken by BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, Kainth endorsed the demand for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He said that considering the gravity of the incident and its proximity to the International Border, limiting the probe to the state level would not be appropriate. The possibility of a larger and organized conspiracy cannot be ruled out.
He criticized the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and said that the government's willpower in handling sensitive security matters is weak. Maintaining law and order is the main responsibility of the state, but in the current circumstances this responsibility is not being discharged effectively. Increasing attacks and smuggling cases are worrying, Kainth demanded a review of the security structure.
Kainth urged the Union Government to immediately order an NIA investigation to ensure a comprehensive and impartial probe into all aspects of the attack. He emphasized that the guilty must receive strict punishment under the law to prevent such incidents in the future.
He further said that instead of using Punjab Police for political gain, the state government should also strengthen the intelligence system, increase cooperation with central agencies and equip the police force with modern technology. The security and stability of Punjab should be the highest priority.
