CHANDIGARH, 12.01.26-The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has signed a landmark Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement with Clarity Medical Pvt. Ltd. for the “TrueOxy+” High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) system.
Developed under a Department of Science and Technology (DST) project led by Prof. G.D. Puri and Dr. Shiv Lal Soni, the TrueOxy+ is a cost-effective, "Made in India" solution for acute respiratory failure. The device provides precise oxygen control (up to 60 L/min) and integrated safety monitoring, matching global standards. After rigorous testing and clinical trials at PGIMER, the technology is now ready for large-scale manufacturing.

HFNC devices are used in every hospital with an intensive care unit for acute hypoxemic respiratory failure and related conditions, such as non-operating room anaesthesia for various procedures like ERCP, endoscopy, post-operative recovery rooms, dental procedures, and monitored anaesthesia care-guided procedures. Post-extubation support represents another critical application, where one meta-analysis demonstrates that HFNC use reduces reintubation rates compared with conventional oxygen therapy.

Key Highlights:

Self-Reliance: Aligns with "Atmanirbhar Bharat" by reducing dependence on expensive imported respiratory equipment.
Clinical Versatility: Used in ICUs, post-operative recovery, and procedures like endoscopies to reduce reintubation rates.
Partnership: Clarity Medical will oversee product refinement, regulatory approvals, and mass production.
Director Prof. Vivek Lal emphasized that this collaboration positions India as a global hub for affordable medical innovation, delivering high-quality healthcare solutions "from India for the world.
