Dedicated Senior Citizen OPD Launched for Citizens Above 70 Years at Regional Hospital Bilaspur
Bilaspur, January 12, 2026-The Government of Himachal Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, continues to accord the highest priority to public welfare by taking consistent, effective, and people-centric initiatives in the health sector. In line with this commitment, the State Government has introduced a dedicated Senior Citizen OPD for citizens aged 70 years and above. This facility has been implemented in major hospitals across the state, providing significant relief to elderly patients by eliminating long waiting queues and ensuring timely medical consultation and treatment.
In accordance with the Chief Minister’s announcement, a dedicated Senior Citizen OPD has also been started at the Regional Hospital Bilaspur. Sharing details of the initiative, Medical Superintendent Dr. A. K. Singh informed that the Senior Citizen OPD for patients above 70 years of age is being operated from Room No. 209 of the hospital. He stated that senior citizens suffering from age-related ailments are being provided treatment on a priority basis through this OPD.
Dr. Singh further explained that under the dedicated Senior Citizen OPD, comprehensive health assessments of elderly patients are being conducted, covering physical, mental, psychological, and social aspects of health. He noted that in old age, multiple chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, joint disorders, and memory-related illnesses are common, which require coordinated and continuous medical care. Through this OPD, such patients are being provided appropriate consultation and treatment at a single point.
He added that special emphasis is also being laid on disease prevention, including fall prevention measures, necessary immunization, and screening for bone-related disorders. As per requirement, services such as counseling, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation are also being made available. To ensure better outcomes, coordination is being maintained with various specialist doctors, and personalized treatment plans are being prepared for senior citizens.
Dr. Singh informed that for the effective functioning of this dedicated Senior Citizen OPD, specialist physician Dr. Vineet has been deputed. He stated that this initiative will spare elderly patients from standing in long queues of the general OPD and will ensure dignified, accessible, and quality healthcare services for them. This arrangement is expected to prove a significant and relief-oriented step in strengthening healthcare services for senior citizens in Bilaspur district.
