Chandigarh, December 22: The Department of Computer Science and Applications at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women inaugurated a seven-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Artificial Intelligence and its Applications’, sponsored by the AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy, here today. The week-long programme aims to strengthen the academic and research competencies of faculty members and researchers by familiarising them with emerging trends and practical applications of Artificial Intelligence.
The FDP was inaugurated in the august presence of the Chief Guest, Sh. Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Secretary, Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration. Addressing the participants, Sh. Kallikkat shared valuable insights into the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence in digital governance, smart administration, and societal development. Emphasising that AI is a fast-paced and ever-evolving technology, he underscored the importance of keeping abreast of its advancements for both students and teachers. He lauded the institution for organising an FDP on such a contemporary and relevant theme, and encouraged participants to integrate AI-driven approaches into teaching, research, and innovation.
The first technical session of the programme was conducted by Prof. Ajay Mittal, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. Mittal delivered an enlightening lecture on “‘ntroduction to Artificial Intelligence: Concepts, Evolution, and Real-World Impact’, providing participants with a strong conceptual foundation by tracing the evolution of AI and highlighting its transformative impact across diverse domains such as healthcare, education, industry, and governance.
Faculty members and research scholars from various institutions across the country are participating in the FDP and will benefit from a series of expert talks, hands-on sessions, and interactive discussions throughout the week, enabling them to gain both theoretical understanding and practical exposure to Artificial Intelligence and its diverse applications.
Emphasising the growing significance of Artificial Intelligence in academia, industry, and governance, Officiating Principal Ms Neena Sharma encouraged faculty members to harness AI for achieving academic and research goals. She stressed that the need of the hour is to use AI responsibly, as a powerful tool for the betterment and sustainable growth of society, while reaffirming the college’s commitment to promoting AI-inspired education and research.
