Chandigarh, Dec 21:Rotary Club of Chandigarh joined hand with Chandigarh Administration in the National Immunisation Day by conducting an awareness campaign and the support for management of polio booths,at five locations identified by the Department of Health, UT, informed President Rtn. Abha Joshi Sharma
Rotarians organised a Walkathon and motivated morning walkers to spread the world in their neighbourhood and families to immunise children below 5 years of age, said the campaign chair Rtn. Hassan Mejie.
Community service chair Rtn. Rosey Katyal, and many senior Rotarians including the former world president Rotary International Rajendra K Saboo also joined the walkathon at the Lake.
Rotary members have contributed over US$ 2.9 billion to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative besides the countless volunteer hours, protecting nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries. It is only Pakistan and Afghanistan that remain as two endemic countries, and though India was declared polio free on 27 March 2014, there is a need to keep children protected till the world is 100 percent rid of this disease
