Ludhiana 21 November 2025-On the occasion of World Fisheries Day (WFD), College of Fisheries (COF) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana is organizing assorted events highlighting the life supporting ecosystem services offered by the natural aquatic resources.

Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean COF informed that WFD is celebrated globally every year on 21st November to highlight importance of sustainable fisheries, promote health of aquatic ecosystems and show solidarity with fisher folks, including fishermen and fish farmers. Rivers, lakes and oceans support the largest wild stock to feed the human population with fish and other diverse aquatic organisms, which need to be responsibly used and conserved to safeguard food and nutritional security with required food safety. Public awareness, responsibility and participation is essentially required for conserving them for future generations. Every year WFD is observed with a specific theme to promote responsible fishing and aquaculture practices; reduce pollution and safeguard livelihoods dependent on these resources. India is celebrating WFD-2025 with the theme “India's Blue Transformation: Strengthening Value Addition in Seafood Exports”.

The WFD celebration will continue on 22nd November with a treat of events, including live fish display, fish recipe competition and sale of value-added fish/shrimp products, along with an education corner highlighting socio-economic profile of fisheries sector, offering vibrant academic and professional opportunities in India and abroad.

Congratulating the fisheries fraternity on WFD, Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice Chancellor of the university informed that it is vital to conserve our natural resources so that they could be economically harnessed in a sustainable manner under the umbrella of ‘One Health’, without any adverse effects on the environment, human health and wildlife.
