MAHENDERGARH, 04.11.25-The Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendragarh, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana, organized a one-day National Seminar on “Drug-Free India”. The event was jointly conducted by the Youth Red Cross Unit and the Department of Teacher Education.

Sh. Mahesh Joshi, General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana graced the programme as the Chief Guest. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda (DGP, Chandigarh), social reformer Dr. Maulana Kalbe Rizvi, Life Coach, USA, Dr. Jasbir Lohan, and educationist & entrepreneur, USA, Engg. Ram Arya.

He reminded the youth that education and knowledge gained in universities remain valuable throughout life, whereas addiction destroys one’s future. Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar motivated students to take responsibility by caring for chosen dependents—animals, birds, or plants—and expressed gratitude to the invited speakers. He reaffirmed that CUH will remain an active partner in the national mission of a Drug-Free India.

Sh. Mahesh Joshi appreciated the initiative and expressed confidence that the seminar would meaningfully support the Drug-Free India campaign. He encouraged students to draw inspiration from Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh for meaningful contribution to society.
Prof. Dinesh Chahal, Coordinator, Youth Red Cross Unit, welcomed the gathering and introduced the theme of the seminar. Speaking in the inaugural session, Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda called drug addiction a serious national concern, particularly affecting youth. He explained in detail the physical, psychological, and social damage caused by drugs, along with preventive measures. Dr. Maulana Kalbe Rizvi inspired participants to stay away from addiction and dedicate their lives to the welfare of the nation, society, and humanity. He said that drugs destroy both time and intellect.

Sharing insights from his experience, Dr. Jasbir Lohan highlighted the importance of willpower in fighting addiction. He said that if a person firmly decides, no one can force them into drugs. He also emphasized the crucial role of volunteers in anti-drug campaigns. Engg. Ram Arya discussed the broader consequences of drug abuse, including loss of human capital, mental health challenges, and increase in crime. He called for collective action to eliminate the menace.

As part of the event, students presented a Nukkad Natak spreading awareness against drug abuse. Participants also took the Drug-Free India pledge. Prof. Pramod Kumar presented a detailed report of the seminar, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Renu Yadav, Dean Student Welfare. The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and volunteers, reinforcing CUH’s commitment to social responsibility and youth empowerment.
