Khatkar Kalan (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar), September 28:Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday paid floral tribute to Shaheed-Azam Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary and said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh Heritage Complex at the native village of the legendary martyr will be dedicated to the state in the coming months.

The Chief Minister who dedicated the 100 feet tall tri-color flag constructed at the museum to the people on the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam. He said that this 30 feet by 20 feet national tri-color is a part of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Heritage complex and will add zing to this sacred place revered by one and all. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the work on this complex is going on in full swing and will completed very adding that being constructed at a cost of Rs 51.70 crore this complex is a humble tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam.

Paying floral tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the Chief Minister said that the iconic martyr sacrificed his life to liberate India from the chains of foreign imperialism. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this ambitious project will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations to serve the country selflessly adding that this significant initiative aims to preserve and promote the unparalleled legacy of this great son of the soil. He emphasized that the complex will not merely be a structural monument, but an unforgettable experience as visitors will witness glimpses of Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s supreme sacrifice for the motherland, his intellectual depth, and his courageous spirit.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the monument will feature a Grand Thematic Gate, a 350-meter-long Heritage Street connecting the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Museum to his ancestral house narrating the life journey of Shaheed-e-Azam and India’s freedom struggle through sculptures, 2D/3D wall art, and mannequins, capturing the essence of colonial-era India. He said that it will also have a 700-seat fully air-conditioned auditorium adding that a model of Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s ancestral home in Lyallpur (now in Pakistan) is being constructed, along with a recreation of his ancestral village on the heritage street.

Additionally, the Chief Minister said that the ancestral home at Khatkar Kalan is being restored and preserved adding that digital recreation of Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s courtroom trial is being developed to take visitors back in time and showcase his revolutionary fervor. Bhagwant Singh Mann further added that the existing library is being modernized and digitized to offer an immersive experience adding that other facilities at the complex will include a Tourist Facilitation Centre, cottages, horticultural landscaping, a musical fountain, and ample parking space. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is the bounden duty of the state government to perpetuate the legacy of great martyrs, who had sacrificed their lives for the sake of the motherland.

The Chief Minister said that the legendary martyr was not only an individual but an institution adding that we must follow his footsteps for the progress of the country. He said that every endeavor of the state government is aimed at carving a progressive and prosperous Punjab as dreamt by Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that for the first time in Punjab’s history, a CM and his entire Cabinet took oath of office on this sacred land of Khatkar Kalan.

The Chief Minister said that on March 23, 2022, the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji, an anti-corruption action line was launched from Hussainiwala, marking the beginning of a war against corruption. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that a 30-foot-tall statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Ji was installed at the entrance of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, SAS Nagar (Mohali), in his honor. He said that due to strenuous efforts of the state government, the Mohali airport was officially renamed after Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji.

The Chief Minister said that our government has also decided to put the portraits of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in all government offices. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the motive was to ensure that people of state can draw inspiration from these great personalities to serve the state. Meanwhile, he gave a clarion call to the people to follow the footsteps of these revolutionary leaders to carve out a rangla and prosperous Punjab.

Earlier, the Chief Minister laid a wreath at the statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and also paid floral tributes at the memorial of the great martyr’s father, Sardar Kishan Singh. He also patted Diksha Raju, a 11th class student from Majara Deengrian who had made a Rangoli with the picture of the legendary martyr.

On the occasion Lok Sabha MP Malwinder Singh Kang and others were also present.

• Punjab Govt spearheading a mass-movement in rural areas to educate farmers about ill-effects of stubble burning

Chandigarh, September 28:In a decisive move towards addressing the pressing concern of stubble burning and fostering sustainable agriculture practices in the state, the Punjab Government has unveiled a comprehensive and ambitious Information, Education and Communication (IEC) plan for Crop Residue Management (CRM), announced S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Punjab.

Sharing the details of the initiative, S. Khudian said that the extensive campaign aims to blanket the state, directly engaging communities, students and farmers to drive a behavioural shift towards eco-friendly practices, thereby promoting a sustainable agriculture.

The Agriculture Minister informed that the multi-faceted IEC strategy encompasses a wide range of activities designed for maximum reach and impact. To effectively disseminate information, the department will deploy 50 dedicated publicity vans to broadcast informative messages in rural areas. Additionally, 444 'Nukkad Nataks' (street plays) will be organised to communicate the message in a culturally resonant manner. Furthermore, 12,500 informative wall paintings will be created across the state to highlight the benefits of Crop Residue Management (CRM) and the ill-effects of paddy straw burning.

S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian stated that as many as 3,333 village-level camps and 296 block-level camps will be organised to provide farmers with direct access to information, expert advice, and government schemes on Crop Residue Management (CRM), empowering them to adopt sustainable practices, besides, mobilising 148 ASHA workers to conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns in villages, personalising the message for families. Furthermore, school students will be engaged through essay writing, painting, and debate competitions to instill environmental consciousness from a young age.

“The health of our soil and our people is our top priority. This year, we are not just focusing on providing machinery, but on winning the hearts and minds of our farming community. This massive outreach program is a 'Mass Movement' against stubble burning. We are going directly to the grassroots—to the villages, schools and homes—to educate, empower and encourage our farmers to become champions of crop residue management. Our goal is to ensure a cleaner, greener, and healthier Punjab for our future generations,” said S. Khudian while adding that this campaign underscores Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government's firm commitment to addressing the challenge of air pollution.

Administrative Secretary Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Dr. Basant Garg stated that a total of 1.58 lakh Crop Residue Management (CRM) machines have been provided to state farmers since 2018-19. He expressed confidence that proactive community engagement and mechanisation of agriculture sector would lead to a further substantial reduction in stubble burning incidents this season.

CHANDIGARH, September 28:In a significant step to empower citizens and strengthen the fight against organised crime as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Sunday launched a dedicated, toll-free helpline 1800-330-1100 for the public to report organised crimes including intimidation, extortion, and gangster-related activities anonymously.

Pertinently, this helpline has been activated by the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) to provide citizens with a direct and confidential channel to report organised crime.

To ensure the helpline's effectiveness, the DGP made a trial call to 1800-330-1100 during the inauguration and interacted with the representative to understand the working of the new system.

DGP Gaurav Yadav, in his video message to the public, assured that every piece of information received on this helpline will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality, and the identities of callers will be protected. He appealed to the people of Punjab to save the number, report any such incidents without any fear or hesitation, and join the Punjab Police in its mission to build a safer state.

“This helpline is a powerful tool for the public to directly assist the police. Reports received here will trigger immediate and coordinated action,” said the DGP, while emphasising that the helpline is centrally monitored under the direct supervision of the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban, to ensure effective and prompt follow-up on every lead.

The DGP informed that the established infrastructure of the 112 helpline is being utilised to ensure smooth functioning of this helpline, however, calls to this number will be taken up independently by specialised officers from the AGTF, who will personally handle the matters and coordinate with concerned districts if required.

Speaker pays tribute to Sardar Bhagat Singh on 118th Birth Anniversary

Chandigarh 28 September 2025: Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan paid tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Shaheed-E- Azam S. Bhagat Singh on his 118th Birth Anniversary. He said that S. Bhagat Singh sacrificed his life to liberate India from the clutches of British rule.

He fought a fierce movement against British rule so that people of India could get freedom from the cruel atrocities being committed by the British. S. Bhagat Singh contribution towards India's freedom struggle was unparalleled, Speaker said.

Sandhwan highlighted that his contribution towards India's freedom struggle will remain indelible in history and the country salutes his martyrdom.His bravery and courage can't be forgotten. We should follow their ideals and path shown by him.

Speaker stressed that Shaheed Bhagat Singh accomplished several great deeds at young age. He inherited the wisdom from his family. He was very fond of reading books and thereby books played a great role in shaping his life. In fact, books were his food.

VB drive against corruption: Education department JE nabbed red handed taking Rs 4000 bribe

Accused previously received Rs 2000 as first instalment

Chandigarh September 29, 2025 - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its drive against corruption has apprehended Harjit Singh, Junior Engineer (JE), Education Department, posted at Kapurthala red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs. 4000.

Disclosing this a spokesperson of the VB said the accused has been arrested following a complainant from a school teacher posted in Government School, Dhaliwal Dona, in Kapurthala district.

He further stated that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the aforementioned accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 10,000 for issuing a completion certificate in respect of a grant amounting to Rs 40 lakh, utilized by the said school. The accused JE had already taken Rs 2000 for this purpose and demanded the remaining money. The complainant has recorded the conversation with JE while he was demanding the bribe and submitted it to the VB as an evidence.

The spokesperson informed that after preliminary verification of this complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused JE was caught red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 4000 as a second instalment from the teacher in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the JE at VB police station Jalandhar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress.
