Ludhiana 14 September 2025-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, through its various colleges, research projects, training programmes, and extension activities, imparts technical knowledge and motivates farmers to adopt value addition, innovation, and business-oriented approaches in animal husbandry and dairy processing.
Under this initiative, Sh. Jasveer Singh from village Hamidi has emerged as a role model in value addition of milk products after successfully setting up a dairy processing plant. It was inaugurated by Dr. R.S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education-cum- Nodal officer of Farmer FIRST Project, accompanied by Dr. Parminder Singh, Principal Investigator, Co-PIs and staff members.
Dr. Grewal praised Jasveer Singh for his visionary efforts in setting up a modern and hygienic dairy plant. He emphasized that Jasveer's success stands as an example for other farmers in the region who wish to enhance productivity and profitability through innovation. He motivated other farmers to take advantage of the latest livestock management techniques and trainings being offered by the University.
Dr. Gopika Talwar informed that Jasveer was inspired by the university demonstrations at his own village and he decided to set up his own 500-litre capacity dairy processing plant. He received training from Vet Varsity in dairy processing and product diversification. His unit is now producing Dahi, Ghee, Paneer, Khoya, Butter, and Cream. His venture was financially supported under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme.
Dr. Parminder also appreciated the farmer and added that the success stories of such farmers stand as a testament to the university’s mission of transforming livestock owners into progressive entrepreneurs.
Sh. Jasveer Singh said that the guidance from Varsity experts under the Farmer FIRST Project, combined with institutional support, played a crucial role in shaping his journey from a traditional dairy farmer to an entrepreneur.
