Ludhiana 06 September 2025-In a collaborative effort to assist flood-affected communities, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana in partnership with Animal Husbandry Department, Punjab and All Feed Millers Association (AFMA), Punjab, organized a comprehensive animal welfare and health camp in Ladhuka Mandi, Fazilka district. The event, held to commemorate the Teachers' Day, aimed to provide immediate relief and support to both livestock and residents impacted due to the recent deluge . The University teachers association provided free medicines in the camp.

The camp was led by Dr. J.P.S Gill, Vice-Chancellor. He praised the joint initiative, remarking, “Such initiatives during this critical time reflect true commitment towards our community.” Dr. Gill, highlighted the university's dedication to farmer and animal welfare.

A team of veterinary experts and faculty, Drs. Bilawal Singh, HS Sodhi, PS Dhaliwal, and Tanvika, along with the Post-graduates and Veterinary Interns from university provided a wide range of free services, including on-the-spot treatment for sick animals, vaccination, deworming, mastitis testing, and reproductive health consultations for milch animals. The team also distributed free medicines and feed. Going beyond their official duties, faculty and students personally contributed social amenities such as dry groceries, human medicines, and sanitary pads to help the affected . The services were provided to about 225 bovine livestock and about 50 sheep and goats belonging to around 150 farmers.

The AFMA, Punjab, made a significant contribution to the relief efforts with 100 bags of animal feed. President of AFMA Mr. Ashok Kumar and Secretary Sh. G.S. Sodhi said that AFMA stands with farmers of the state and will continue to provide assistance in collaboration with the University.

The event, which saw a large turnout of farmers, was organized under the guidance of Dr. R.S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education. Dr. Grewal informed that this is the second camp in the series and the similar flood relief camps will be organized in other affected areas of Punjab. Dr. Prahlad Singh, Coordinator of the camp, along with the entire team rendered commendable efforts, contributing significantly to the success of the event.
