Chandigarh, September 02 :The Punjab government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann is making all around efforts to provide continuous relief to the flood-affected persons. All Cabinet Ministers of the State are reaching out to various villages and flood-affected areas to provide relief materials and assistance to the people.

Cabinet Minister S. Harpal Singh Cheema and Food, Civil Supplies, Forest and Wildlife Protection Minister Sh. Lal Chand Kataruchak visited the flood-affected villages of Bhoa constituency in Pathankot district and took stock of the flood situation. They visited Kathlaur Bridge, Kolian Adda, Pamma, Sionti Taraf and Narot Jaimal Singh today. They assured the flood affected people that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will leave no stone unturned in providing relief material to the people in this difficult time. They have also visited the Dhussi Dam. Apart from this, four trucks of relief material were also dispatched by S. Harpal Singh Cheema for Bhoa constituency.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister and AAP State President Sh. Aman Arora and Water Resources Minister Sh. Barinder Kumar Goyal visited Ghaggar near Makror Sahib and Sirhind Choe, Sunam in district Sangrur to take stock of the situation. They reviewed the ground realities and assessed the needs of the people residing in these flood affected areas.

Furthermore, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat visited villages Mand Inderpur and Bharoana in Sultanpur Lodhi tehsil and reviewed the flood relief work and assured every possible help to the flood affected people.

Cabinet Minister Sh. Sanjeev Arora visited Sutlej river Dhussi Bandh near Sasrali Colony and took stock of the situation and issued necessary directions. Apart from this, Cabinet Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Labour and Tourism and Cultural Affairs, S. Tarunpreet Singh Sond visited the Gab bridge in Khanna and inspected the water drainage.

Cabinet Minister S. Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. has arranged 15 trolleys of relief materials, 10 small vehicles carrying food items, medicines, fodder for animals for providing help to flood-affacted areas like Ajnala and Ramdas.

Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh visited village Pandori Khajur in Shamchurasi assembly constituency of Hoshiarpur district took stock of flood affected areas and reviewed the necessary arrangements being made for them.

Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh visited village Bedi Chhanna and went to the village Gurudwara Sahib to inspect the medical camp and also distributed relief materials to the people. He has dispatched 23 ambulances from Government Medical College, Amritsar to provide uninterrupted health services to the people in flood-affected areas of Ajnala and Ramdas. Lok Sabha MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, MLA S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal were also present.

Harjot Singh Bains, on Tuesday, visited over dozen flood-affected villages situated near the Sutlej River to ensure timely support to people in need.

Braving the heavy rains, S. Bains traveled by boat and motorcycle to reach relief camps and villages including Harsa Bela, Bhanam, Bhallan, Bhallri, Nangra, Bela Ramgarh and Bela Dhyani.

While overseeing the arrangements, the Minister directed officials to perform their duties with utmost dedication and diligence. He reaffirmed the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government’s unwavering commitment to protect their lives and property.

S. Harjot Singh Bains informed that over 30 relief camps have been established in Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency to provide critical support, including medical care, food and shelter, to those impacted by the floods.

The Education Minister urged local organisations, including youth clubs and Mahila Mandals, to join hands with the district administration in relief efforts. Meanwhile, he also inspected river and canal banks, directing immediate measures to prevent potential damage from water erosion. He said that relief centres are operational, ready to accommodate residents from sensitive areas as a precautionary measure.

Chandigarh, September 2:Punjab Jail and Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar today distributed relief materials to the people of flood-affected areas and village Jalloke in Patti assembly constituency of Tarn Taran district.

Assuring that the grave damage caused by the river water will be compensated, he distributed relief materials like food kits, water, ration etc. to the needy people and also arranged fodder, straw and feed for animals.

On this occasion, S. Bhullar told the people that in view of the possibility of further increase in river water as per the latest rainfall situation, the district administration of Tarn Taran is making necessary arrangements for the affected people in the district. He said that the administration is also making necessary arrangements to transport people to camps set up in Guru Ghars of different villages.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Minister said that in these difficult circumstances due to natural disasters, we should all help the flood victims like a family. He said that the Punjab government and the district administration are already doing relief work, along with this, social service organizations are also providing support to the people of the affected areas.

CHANDIGARH/SRI MUKTSAR SAHIB, September 2:In a major breakthrough against organised crime amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Sri Muktsar Sahib Police has apprehended two associates of the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang and recovered five illegal weapons from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Badhni Kalan in Moga and Gursewak Singh alias Mota, a resident of village Manu Ke Sandhu in Jagraon, Ludhiana. The recovered weapons include four .32 bore country-made pistols and one .30 bore country-made pistol along with 10 magazines.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the duo arrested persons are linked with the gang and are actively involved in furthering its criminal activities. Further investigation is ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages in this case, he said, while adding that more arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days.

Sharing operation details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sri Muktsar Sahib Dr Akhil Chaudhary acting on specific intelligence, a special naka was laid by CIA Malout under the supervision of SP (D) Sri Muktsar Sahib and DSP (SD) Lambi.

During checking, the police apprehended two suspects carrying a blue kit bag, he said, while adding that upon searching the kit, police teams recovered the illegal weapons.

The SSP said that probe has revealed that accused Gurdeep Singh came into contact with Harjot Singh alias Neela and Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga— both close associates of Lawrence Bishnoi.

“On Neela’s instructions, Gursewak and Gurdeep travelled to Indore, where, an unidentified person delivered five pistols to them,” he said, while adding that out of these, two pistols were retained by the accused, while the remaining three were to be supplied to Neela.

Meanwhile, Harjot Singh alias Neela and Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga are wanted criminals, with 12 and 10 FIRs registered against them in different districts and states respectively.

In this regard, a case FIR no. 88 dated 01/09/2025 has been registered under section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Kabarwala in Sri Muktsar Sahib.

CEO Punjab Holds Meeting with Political Parties on Special Summary Revision Ahead of Bye-Election in Tarn Taran

Chandigarh, September 2:Ahead of the bye-election to the Tarn Taran Assembly Constituency- 21, Sibin C, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, convened a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties to discuss the ongoing Special Summary Revision of the photo electoral roll, with 1st July 2025 as the qualifying date.

During the meeting, the CEO, Punjab apprised the political parties of the draft publication of the electoral roll, which was carried out on 2nd September 2025. He informed them that the rationalization and integration of polling stations in the constituency had been completed as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. The total number of polling stations in the constituency now stands at 222 (Urban - 60 & Rural - 162). It was ensured that none of the polling stations exceed the maximum limit of 1200 electors and none of the voter have to travel more than two kilometres for voting, thus enhancing accessibility and electoral convenience.

As per the draft roll, the total number of electors in Tarn Taran Assembly Constituency -21 stands at 1,93,275. The window for filing claims and objections will remain open from 2nd September to 17th September 2025. The final publication of the electoral roll is scheduled for 30th September 2025.

CEO Punjab urged all political parties to contribute actively to the revision process by engaging Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to raise awareness about voter updation and assist electors in the process of filing claims and objections.

“The cooperation of political parties is crucial in upholding the sanctity of the electoral process. Through their Booth Level Agents, we request all parties to reach out to the electorate, encourage voter verification, and ensure maximum participation in the roll revision process,” said Sibin C.

In addition, the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab highlighted about the provision of appeal by electors to the DEO against the orders of EROs within 15 days of the order with regards to claims and objections and also inclusion of names inadvertently omitted and further to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) level if required as per RP Acts/ Rules.

HEALTH DEPT RACE AGAINST TIME TO ENSURE HEALTH SERVICES IN FLOOD-HIT AREAS IN PUNJAB

Thousands Treated, 424 Ambulances Deployed, and a New Wave of Doctors Joins the Front Lines

CHANDIGARH, September 2:Spearheading the medical relief drive in flood affected areas of the state, Punjab Health and Family Welfare department has been adopted a multi-pronged strategy focused on rapid mobilisation, on-ground treatment and disease prevention to safeguard the health and well-being of citizens with a formidable force of 818 teams—comprising 458 Rapid Response Teams and 360 Mobile Medical Teams—fully equipped with essential medicines, informed Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh here on Tuesday.

“Our goal is to ensure that no person is left without medical care, and we are delivering on that promise,” he said, while informing that daily medical camps are being held in affected areas and shelter homes to provide uninterrupted treatment. To date, 962 camps have been organised, where over 31,876 patients have been examined and treated for a range of illnesses, including diarrhoea, gastroenteritis, diabetes, hypertension, skin and eye allergies, and dog bites. The health teams are also prioritising pregnant women by conducting Ante Natal Check-ups on-site.

Dr. Balbir Singh said, “We have a robust system in place to deal with the crisis. The state has a sufficient stock of 66 essential drugs and 21 consumables specifically pre-selected for flood relief. Additionally, separate funds have been allocated to districts to ensure they can purchase any necessary medicine, guaranteeing seamless health services.”

Highlighting the proactive measures being taken to prevent disease outbreaks, the Health Minister said that ASHA workers, with a force of over 11,103 deployed in flood-affected districts, are going house-to-house to provide medicines and raise awareness about water- and vector-borne diseases. They are also prioritizing the tracking and care of pregnant women and ensuring that routine immunization schedules are not disrupted.

To bolster the medical infrastructure, the Health Department has deployed 170 ambulances. This fleet has been significantly augmented by the generous support of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), nursing colleges, and NGOs, which have provided an additional 254 fully-equipped ambulances. “With a total of 424 ambulances now operational, we are ensuring that a rapid medical response is available 24x7,” Dr. Balbir Singh affirmed. He also noted the deployment of two specialized boat ambulances in District Gurdaspur and a helicopter for the emergency airlift of critical patients, including pregnant women. So far, five pregnant women have been safely evacuated and provided with timely medical care.

In a crucial step to strengthen the front-line teams, the Health Minister said that 322 new Medical Officers have been appointed, with 138 of these have been specifically assigned to the seven worst-hit districts. These officers will lead mobile teams and ambulance services, organise medical camps, and monitor for potential disease outbreaks.

The Minister extended his gratitude to partner organizations, stating, "We are grateful for the support from IMA Punjab, Nursing Colleges, private hospitals, and the Punjab Chemist Association, who have all stepped forward to help. These partnerships are a testament to the community's resolve."

Dr. Balbir Singh reaffirmed the government's commitment. “Under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government is working tirelessly. Our teams are operating around the clock to provide uninterrupted healthcare and preventive services. We want to assure every citizen that we stand with you and will continue to provide every possible relief until this crisis is fully resolved.”

Chandigarh, September 2:Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian today said that Punjab is facing one of the most widespread floods in recent decades, which has impacted as many as 23 districts, claiming 30 human lives and leaving more than 3.54 lakh people affected. He said that the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann is making every possible effort to ensure timely relief, large-scale evacuation and rehabilitation of families in flood-hit regions.

Giving details, the Cabinet Minister informed that 19,597 people have been safely evacuated so far from low-lying and flood-affected areas. Major evacuations were reported from Gurdaspur (5581 persons), Ferozepur (3432), Amritsar (2734), Fazilka (2422), Hoshiarpur (1615), Kapurthala (1428) and Pathankot (1139), besides others districts including Barnala (369), Jalandhar (474), Rupnagar (65), Mansa (163), Moga (115) and Tarn Taran (60).

He further said that 174 relief camps have been established across Punjab to provide shelter and essential facilities to affected families. These include 29 camps in Barnala, 26 in Patiala, 25 in Gurdaspur, 20 in Hoshiarpur, 16 in Amritsar, 14 in Pathankot, 10 in Fazilka, 9 in Moga, 8 each in Ferozepur and Jalandhar, 4 in Kapurthala, 3 in Rupnagar and 1 each in Mansa and Sangrur. Currently, 5167 people are housed in these camps, the highest being in Hoshiarpur (1041), Fazilka (1304), Ferozepur (706), Gurdaspur (424), Amritsar (371), Barnala (369) and Jalandhar (474) and others are 163 in Mansa, 115 in Moga, 60 in Sangrur, 57 in Kapurthala, 48 in Pathankot and 35 in Rupnagar.

Sharing the scale of damage, S. Mundian said that a total of 1400 villages have been inundated. The most severely affected districts are Gurdaspur (324 villages), Amritsar (135), Hoshiarpur (119), Kapurthala (115), Mansa (108), Ferozepur (93), Pathankot (82), Fazilka (72), Jalandhar (62) and Tarn Taran (66). Besides this, 48 villages in Moga, 44 in Rupnagar, 34 in Barnala, 26 in Ludhiana, 23 in Sri Muktsar Sahib,16 in Patiala, 15 in Faridkot, 13 in Sangrur and 5 villages in Malerkotla have been affected.

S. Hardeep Singh Mundian informed that a total population of 3,54,626 has been affected across 13 districts of Punjab due to the floods. Among the worst-hit districts are Gurdaspur with 1,45,000 affected people, Amritsar with 1,17,534, Ferozepur with 38,112 and Fazilka with 21,562. Other districts that reported significant impact include Pathankot with 15,053, Kapurthala with 5748, SAS Nagar with 7000, Hoshiarpur with 1960 and Jalandhar with 991 persons affected. Meanwhile, smaller but notable impacts were recorded in Barnala (403), Moga (800), Rupnagar (300) and Mansa (163).

He pointed out that 1,48,590 hectares of standing crops have been damaged. The worst-hit areas include Gurdaspur (40,193 hectares), Mansa (27,291), Amritsar (23,000), Kapurthala (14,934), Ferozepur (14,665), Tarn Taran (11,883 hectares), Hoshiarpur (5971), Jalandhar (3000), Pathankot (2442), SAS Nagar (2000), Patiala (1450), Moga (949), Rupnagar (300), Faridkot (141), Ludhiana (108), Bathinda (97), Sri Muktsar Sahib (84), Fazilka (64), SBS Nagar (7), Malerkota (5), Sangrur (3), Barnala (2) and Fatehgarh Sahib (1).

On deployment of forces, the Cabinet Minister informed that 23 NDRF teams are working intensively in affected districts including Pathankot (1), Gurdaspur (6), Amritsar (6), Ferozepur (3), Fazilka (3), Bathinda (1), Jalandhar (2) and Rupnagar (1). The Army, Air Force and Navy have deployed 12 columns with 8 on standby, along with 2 engineer columns and around 35 helicopters for rescue and relief. The BSF has also been providing ground support in border districts. In addition, 114 boats and one state helicopter are being used for evacuations and supply of relief materials.

The Cabinet Minister stated that from August 1 to September 2, a total of 30 human lives have been lost across 12 districts, with Pathankot reporting the highest toll of 6 deaths. Three persons are still missing from Pathankot. He added that while the exact extent of livestock and infrastructure loss will be assessed once floodwaters recede, preliminary reports indicate severe damage to both.
