During the meeting, the Mayor and councillors submitted a memorandum requesting the formulation and implementation of a Land Pooling Policy in Chandigarh, modeled on successful policies in Haryana, and Delhi.
The representatives highlighted the increasing urban pressure on Chandigarh and the limitations posed by the absence of a structured land acquisition mechanism. They emphasized that a Land Pooling Policy would offer a fair, transparent, and participative framework, ensuring landowners’ rights while accelerating planned urban development in areas like Sarangpur, Dhanas, Manimajra, Dadumajra, Maloya, and peripheral villages.
Key demands presented included:
* Drafting of a Chandigarh-specific Land Pooling Policy
* Public consultations with landowners, panchayats, and farmer groups
* Provision for rehabilitation, transparency, and fair plot redistribution
* A time-bound roadmap for implementation
The Mayor expressed confidence that the Administrator would give due consideration to this progressive proposal and initiate steps to ensure inclusive growth and responsible urban expansion in Chandigarh.

Mayor launches Street Vendor Mobile App & Web Portal for seamless digital access to vendors

Chandigarh, July 10:- To promote ease of doing business for registered street vendors in Chandigarh, Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Mayor, and Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, today inaugurated the Street Vendor Mobile App and Vendor Cell Web Portal of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

While speaking on the occassion, City Mayor said that developed by the Society for Promotion of Information Technology, Chandigarh (SPIC), the initiative aims to empower street vendors through digital convenience and administrative transparency.

She further said that the Street Vendor Mobile App, available on Android, enables registered vendors to make online payments for various fees such as monthly vending charges (stationary/mobile), ID card, challan, registration, and renewal fees. It also allows vendors to:
* View and download their complete payment history and receipts.
* Access and download their Provisional Vending Certificate.
* Submit service requests like mobile number updates.
* Receive notifications about upcoming or pending payments.
* Use the app in English, Hindi, or Punjabi.
In addition, the newly launched Vendor Cell Web Portal (https://mcchandigarh.gov.in/Vendor/index.aspx) serves as a comprehensive digital platform for vendor-related services and administrative oversight. Key highlights include:
* Access to vendor bylaws, policies, and fee-related information.
* Status verification tools for vendors.
* Maps of all designated vending zones and sites.
* A public dashboard with real-time insights into daily transactions, total active vendors, and fee collection.

Speaking about these services, MC Commissioner said that this digital platform is a step towards empowering our street vendors by ensuring convenience, transparency, and timely access to essential services. He said the MCC is committed to modernizing civic services. With this digital transformation, it aims to streamline vendor-related operations and improve service delivery.

As part of the program, 20 ID Cards and 20 Certificates of Vending (COVs) were distributed to registered street vendors. The digital platforms will serve as a centralized hub for vendor services, including information of their fee status etc.

MC Chandigarh conducts anti-polythene raid in sector 26 Grain Market; 250 kg Single-Use Plastic seized

Chandigarh, July 10:-In a determined effort to enforce ban on single-use plastic (SUP), the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh conducted a special anti-polythene raid today at the Grain Market, Sector 26. During the operation, approximately 250 kg of single-use plastic carry bags were seized, and 12 challans were issued to violators for non-compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.

The raid was conducted under the direct supervision of MCC officials including Mohinder Pathak (Health Supervisor), Darshan Singh (Chief Sanitary Inspector), and Sanitary Inspectors Parveen Kumar, Manjit Kumar, and Davinder Rohilla. The confiscated plastic material has been safely transported to the Dry Waste Processing Plant for appropriate disposal and further processing.

MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, has issued a strict warning to all violators, emphasizing that repeated violations of the SUP ban and waste management rules will attract heavier penalties and legal action.

He further appealed to shopkeepers, vendors, and citizens to fully comply with Solid Waste Management Rules and contribute to maintaining a clean and environmentally sustainable city. The use of eco-friendly alternatives and responsible waste disposal are critical to the success of this mission.

MC Chandigarh starts paper bag making workshops in schools under Swachh Bharat Mission

Chandigarh, July 10:-To spread awareness about saying no to plastic and choosing eco-friendly options, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started a special five-day workshop series in city schools under the "Plastic Mukt Chandigarh" campaign.

The first workshop was held today at Government Model High School, Sector 38-B, in collaboration with Prasanchetas Foundation. Students learned how to make paper bags by reusing old newspapers and paper. This activity helped them understand how simple steps can help save the environment.

The team from MCC and the foundation encouraged students to reduce plastic use and choose paper, cloth, or jute bags while shopping. Students were given certificates of appreciation and were motivated to become "Swachhata Champions" by spreading the message of clean and green living to their friends and families.

While speaking about the initiative, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, said that these workshops will be held in different schools across Chandigarh from July 10 to July 16, to mark World Paper Bag Day. The main aim is to promote the habit of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR) among young students, he said.

He further said this initiative is a small but important step towards making Chandigarh free from single-use plastic and turning students into real changemakers for the environment.
