CHANDIGARH, 10.0725-On the occasion of ISSP Foundation Day, the Chandigarh branch of the Indian Society for the Study of Pain (ISSP), in collaboration with the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at PGIMER Chandigarh, organized a “Public Awareness Program on Chronic Back Pain” at PGIMER. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Kajal Jain, Head of the Department of Anaesthesia, who welcomed esteemed guests and delegates.

Prof Y K Batra—chief guest and former president of the ISSP Chandigarh branch—reflected on the society’s journey since its inception in 1984, highlighting its growth in clinical training, public outreach, and pain management initiatives. Prof. Neerja Bharti, Secretary of the Chandigarh branch, underscored the branch’s commitment to improving regional pain management through awareness campaigns and clinical training programs.

Prof. Akshay Anand, in-charge of the CCRYN Yoga Centre at PGIMER, spoke about the preventive and therapeutic benefits of yoga in chronic pain management—reinforcing research and practice trends at PGIMER. A multidisciplinary panel—including pain physicians, surgeons, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and stress management specialists—discussed holistic chronic back pain management. They emphasized early adoption of healthy postural habits in childhood to safeguard spinal health.

Over 100 delegates participated in the interactive session, which featured live demonstrations of correct posture, strengthening exercises, and yoga poses led by experts. The session reinforced ISSP Chandigarh’s ongoing pledge to advance pain management through education, innovation, and collaboration, in alignment with ISSP’s national mission.
