Chandigarh, December 6-Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday asked the officers of the state government to ensure that the benefits of the pro-people and development oriented schemes of the state government are percolated to every genuine beneficiary.

Chairing a meeting with the Administrative Secretaries of all the departments, the Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to the holistic development of Punjab and prosperity of its people. He said that heath, education, employment and others are the priority areas of the state governments and major thrust should be given to facilitate people in these. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the ongoing works must be completed within the stipulated time frame and new schemes should be formulated for the well being of the people.

The Chief Minister said that new welfare schemes must be conceived and executed by keeping in view the larger public interest. He said that Punjab is scripting a new success story in every field and emerging as a front ranking state in the country. Bhagwant Singh Mann asked the officers to ensure that the budget earmarked to their respective departments is utilised well in time.

The Chief Minister said that there is no dearth of funds as far as the development of state and progress of its people is concerned. He said that providing good governance and clean administration to the people was the top priority of the state government. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the basic motto of holding this meeting was to ensure that the benefits of these schemes were ensured to every eligible beneficiary at grass-root level.

The Chief Minister said that any sort of callousness in implementation of the social welfare schemes was totally unwarranted and undesirable. Underlining the need for evolving a foolproof mechanism to benefit the needy person, he said that the officers must keep a regular tab to ensure that the people are benefited from these schemes. Bhagwant Singh Mann cautioned the officers that the state government will adopt zero tolerance towards any sort of laxity and nepotism in implementation of government schemes.

The Chief Minister further said that the state government was committed to imparting the benefit of these schemes to every genuine beneficiary. He said that it was the need of hour to carve out a ‘Rangla Punjab’ where everyone can live life with dignity and pride. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that every eligible beneficiary has right on the social welfare scheme and the officers are duty bound to ensure that it is not be denied at any cost.

Bureau to register another case against accused for amassing huge wealth

Chandigarh December 6 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has recovered many valuable assets and items including cash from the house of Manoj Kumar Srivastva, a procurement manager of milk plant Mohali, who was arrested on Tuesday red handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. The Mohali court on Wednesday has granted two days police remand of the accused to the VB for further investigation.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said during search of house of the said accused, Rs 7 lakh cash, 8 gold rings, one gold 'Kara', some ornaments and 14 costly watches have been recovered from his possession. He added that one watch, having price of Rs 45,000, has also been confiscated which was given by the complainant to manager after purchasing it from Chandigarh market.

The spokesperson informed that the VB has asked the bank to freeze his locker and asked other banks to provide all details of his accounts. Mentionably, the cooperative department official has been arrested on the complaint of Sukhbir Singh, who had been managing milk collection tankers deployed by a private firm in the said Milk Plant.

Giving more details he added that the complainant has complained to the VB that the above said official of the state cooperative department has been demanding Rs 50,000 more in lieu of allocating best routes to his tankers being used to collect milk from different locations. The complainant has informed to the VB that the said Manager has already taken Rs 50,000 in this regard.

The spokesperson further added that the VB Flying Squad unit Mohali has investigated the allegations levelled in the complaint and laid a trap in which the accused Manager was arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Flying Squad-1, Punjab at Mohali against the above mentioned official. Further investigation in this case was under progress, he informed.

Chandigarh, December 6:Punjab Mining and Geology Minister S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra, on Wednesday, held urgent meetings with crusher owners, mining contractors and brick kiln owners of the state to ensure the availability of affordable sand and gravel for the people, stop illegal mining activities and ensure proper disposal of paddy stubble to promote a pollution-free state.

During the meetings at Punjab Bhawan, the Cabinet Minister reiterated the commitment of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government to making the state pollution-free and maintaining transparency and ethical practices in the mining sector. Therefore, the minister urged brick-kiln and crusher owners and mining contractors to fully support the government in this pro-people initiative.

The Cabinet Minister, highlighting the significant issue of paddy stubble in the state, urged brick-kiln owners for incorporating a minimum of 20 percent stubble usage in their kilns as part of initiatives aimed at making the state pollution-free. He also announced an upcoming meeting involving stakeholder departments such as Punjab Pollution Control Board, Environment Department and brick-kiln owners to initiate actions in this direction.

S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra assured the brick-kiln owners that their demand for permission of digging soil up to 2 hectares would be sympathetically considered and a decision on fulfilling this long-standing demand will be made soon.

During the meeting with the mining contractors, the Mining and Geology Minister asked them to work in a transparent and clean manner, acknowledging that the contractors' compliance with legal guidelines and assured them of full administrative support. Highlighting the government's crackdown on illegal mining, he expressed confidence that this drive is definitely benefiting legally operating contractors. In response to the contractors' demand to use pokalen machines for mining, the minister assured to consider their demand with empathy.

Similarly, during the meeting with the crusher owners, the Cabinet Minister attentively listened to their concerns and assured them that the government will look into the policies of other states to ensure affordable sand and gravel for the public and promote the crusher business. Regarding the owners' demand for mining site leases, the Cabinet Minister promised to review the matter and make a timely and appropriate decision.

Notably, in meeting with officials of the Mining and Geology department yesterday, S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra emphasized that in line with Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann's vision, there is a need to strategize and increase mineral extraction to ensure the availability of sand and gravel at affordable rates for the state's residents while addressing the issue of illegal mining. The cabinet minister underscored the need for enhancing material extraction by initiating operations at all mining sites and including more possible sites in District Survey Reports. He said that this step would increase the availability of sand in the market. While this will help in reducing the market prices, it will also curb illegal mining.

The Cabinet Minister also warned all DMOs of the paramount importance of conducting their duties with utmost honesty and integrity, and made it unequivocally clear that any office found engaging in illegal activities will face severe consequences.

EIGHT GIRLS STUDENTS FROM PUNJAB GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS WILL GO ON EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO JAPAN: HARJOT SINGH BAINS

Chandigarh, December 6:Eight female students of government schools in Punjab will embark to Japan for a 7-day educational trip.

Divulging the further details, School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, disclosed that these students have been chosen for the Japan Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science, also known as the Sakura Exchange Program in Science.

He said that the selected students will be in Japan from December 10th to 16th, 2023. The selected students include Harmandeep Kaur from School of Eminence Mansa, Jasmeet Kaur from Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School Bhawanigarh, Sanjana from Government Senior Secondary Smart School Model Town Patiala, Sapna from Meritorious School Bathinda, Nisha Rani from School of Eminence Kapurthala, Gurwinder Kaur from Meritorious School Ferozepur, Deepika from Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School Maur Mandi, and Khawahish from Government Senior Secondary Smart School Randhawa, Massandan, Jalandhar.

CHANDIGARH, December 6:As part of the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a safe and secure state as desired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police on Wednesday carried out a special operation ‘OPS Seal-V’ aimed at checking all the vehicles entering or exiting the border state of Punjab to keep a tab at drug trafficking and liquor smuggling, besides, keeping vigil on the movement of gangsters and anti-social elements. The operation was conducted in a synchronised manner from 8 am to 2 pm on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.

Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that ADGsP Bathinda, Patiala and Rupnagar Ranges, IGsP Faridkot Range and DIsG Border, Jalandhar and Ferozepur Ranges were asked to coordinate with their counterpart Range IGsP of the Bordering states to ensure effective Nakabandi as part of 'OPS Seal-V'. All the SSPs of Border districts were directed to organise joint Naka operations at strategic places of the border districts and mobilise a maximum number of manpower to lay strong ‘nakas’ at sealing points under the supervision of Gazetted officers/SHOs, he added.

He said that well-coordinated strong nakas involving over 1200 Police Personnel were set up under the supervision of Inspectors/DSPs at all the 131 entry/exit points of 10 districts, which share boundaries with four border states and UT Chandigarh. The 10 inter-state border districts include Pathankot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka, Ropar, SAS Nagar, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Hoshiarpur and Bathinda.

He said that during the operation, a thorough search of suspected vehicles/persons was conducted while ensuring minimum inconvenience was caused to the general public. Besides checking the vehicles, Police teams have also verified their registration numbers using the VAHAN mobile app, he added.

“We had strictly instructed all the Police Personnel to deal with every commuter in a friendly and polite manner while checking their vehicles during this operation,” he added.

The Special DGP said that as many as 3760 vehicles entering/exiting the state were checked, of which 271 were challaned and 46 were impounded. The Police have also registered 23 first information reports (FIRs) after arresting 26 persons. The police teams have also rounded up 211 suspicious persons for questioning.

Meanwhile, such operations help in showing the police presence in the field, besides, infusing fear among anti-social elements and instilling a sense of security among common people.

CHANDIGARH, December 6:Reaffirming that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Govt has no dearth of funds to ensure the world-class health facilities to people of the state, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema accompanied by Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh chaired a high-level meeting to review the ongoing development projects of health and medical education department here.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that he has strict directions from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to deal all the files related to the health department on top priority as the Punjab Government can’t compromise with the health of the people.

Dr Balbir Singh said that the Punjab Government is all set to roll out the much ambitious Farishtey Scheme under which free treatment to be provided to all road accident victims, irrespective to their domicile, within the first 48 hours of the mishap. “Our government will treat all the road accident victims as one and ensure free treatment at nearby hospitals including private hospitals,” he said.

The Health Minister said that anyone taking the road accident victim to the hospital for treatment will be honoured and rewarded with Rs 2000. There will be no questioning by police or hospital authorities from the person, who brought the road accident victim to the hospital, until and unless he himself wants to become an eye witness.

He also reviewed a slew of ongoing development projects pertaining to the health department including the revamping of three government hospitals— MCH Dhuri Hospital, CHC Kauhrian and Cheema Hospital— to transform them into state-of-the-art health facilities, Integrated Public Health Labs, Critical Care Blocks, etc.

Soon, all the District Hospitals, Subdivision Hospitals and Community Health Centres will have X-ray and Ultrasound facilities, he said, while adding that 40 hospitals including 19 district hospitals, six subdivision hospitals and 15 Community Health Centres (CHCs) are being upgraded with ultra-modern facilities and equipment with the cost of Rs 550 crores so that people can avail world-class healthcare facilities at government hospitals, he said.

Dr Balbir Singh said that the Punjab Government is also coming up with a new concept to set up ‘Patient Facilitation Centre’ at Government Health Facilities to help and guide people coming for treatment. One such Centre is being established at Rajindra Hospital Patiala on a pilot basis, he added.

He said that the supply of free medicines is being ensured and there is no shortage of medicines at any at any government health facility. Apart from this, the government is planning to establish generic medicine pharmacies— Amrut and Jan Aushadhi Kendras— at all the government health facilities to provide lifesaving medicines and surgical products at subsidised rates to the people, he said.

Meanwhile, the Medical Education and Research Minister also asked the concerned officers to expedite the work of all the five New Medical Colleges being established in the state. He also took stock of the state-of-the-art diagnostic and management facility being established at the Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (PILBS) in Mohali.
