Chandigarh, November 26-Describing the facility of free household electricity as a boon for the people of state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said that more than 95 percent of the families in the state will get zero electricity bills in the coming months, which will give major relief to them.

Addressing the gathering during a function to distribute appointment letters to 603 newly recruited cleared and Junior Engineers of the Punjab State Electricity Corporation here today, the Chief Minister said that the government is providing 600 units of free electricity to the people in every cycle. He said that for the first time 86 percent of the households in Punjab have received zero electricity bill. Bhagwant Mann asserted that more than 95 percent of households will benefit from free electricity facility in the coming months.

The Chief Minister said that this major move is a big relief for domestic consumers, who till now have to shell out hefty money every month to pay their power bills. He further said that the state government delivers whatever it promises adding that actions done with good intentions always yield good results. Bhagwant Mann said that Punjabis had never even dreamt that the electricity bill of their homes will come to zero.

However, the Chief Minister said that due to strenuous efforts of the state government this has became a reality today. He said that this has also helped in reducing power consumption also as several families in the state have started using less power so that they can avail 600 units of free electricity. Making another big announcement, Bhagwant Mann said that massive efforts are being made to enhance the production of electricity in the state.

The Chief Minister said that due to massive efforts made by the state government, the coal mine allotted in Jharkhand near Pachwara has become operational and coal supply from it will begin in the first week of December. He said that this will further increase power generation in Punjab. Bhagwant Mann bemoaned that this mine was closed since 2015 but none of the previous governments bothered to get it operational.

The Chief Minister also said that the state government is also making all out efforts to make the government buildings of the state self-sufficient in terms of power. He said that solar energy panels will be installed in all government buildings, which will reduce the burden of electricity bills on the government and will save a lot of money.

On this occasion, Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister A. Venu Prasad, PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Baldev Singh Saran and others were also present.

Chandigarh, November 26-Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said that in a first, the state government has handed over appointment letters to more than 21000 youth in merely eight months.

The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering while handing over appointment letters to 603 newly selected employees including 476 clerks, 68 Junior Engineers (Electrical) and 59 Junior Engineers (Sub station) in PSPCL here at Municipal Bhawan.

The Chief Minister said that this massive drive reflects commitment of his government for welfare of youth as for the first time in history of the country any state government has opened doors of the government jobs for its youth in first eight months of its tenure. He said that merit had been the sole criteria for this entire recruitment process. Bhagwant Mann said that the entire process has been completed in a transparent manner to ensure that only eligible and deserving youth get the jobs.

The Chief Minister further said that several more government jobs are in pipeline as recruitment process is already going on in many departments. He asserted that more and more unemployed youths will get government job very soon on basis of their capability. Bhagwant Mann said that getting a job is the right of every qualified person and the state government is leaving no stone unturned for it.

The Chief Minister further said that process to fill posts of 2100 Assistant Linemen is going on and will be completed by the next month. He said that the examination for these posts has been conducted and the result will be declared this week. Bhagwant Mann announced that by the next month the selected candidates will be given the appointment letters of government jobs.

The Chief Minister said that ever since he has assumed the charge of office, the youth are getting the job only on the sole criteria of merit. Bhagwant Mann unequivocally said that he neither accept anyone's recommendation nor allow anyone to do so because the youth have a lot of faith in him and he will not let this trust be broken at any cost. Describing the corrupt as the real enemies of the state, Bhagwant Mann said that our government is taking stern action against the corrupt elements.

The Chief Minister said that stern action has been taken as per the law so that it acts as a deterrent for others. He said that even some powerful former ministers have been put behind the bars for their misdeeds. Bhagwant Mann reiterated that corrupt leaders belonging to every party will not be spared and severest of severe action will be taken against them.

Meanwhile thanking the Chief Minister for the appointment letter a new appointee Manpreet Kaur said that the entire process has been completed in a transparent manner. She said that this is a red letter day in their life as the state government has provided them job purely on merit. She said that they will ever remain indebted to the state government for this initiative.

Another newly appointed clerk Sanjay Kumar also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for their appointment. He said that their appointment process had been hanging in fire from last few years but after assuming the charge of office Chief Minister personally intervened for completing it at earliest. He said That this will enable them to live their lives with dignity and pride.

Meanwhile another clerk Hargobind Singh Marg and also profusely thanked the Chief Minister for this historic initiative. He said that this will go a long way in transforming their destinies. He also lauded the state government for completing this process purely in the basis of merit.

VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS ASSISTANT FIELD OFFICER MARKFED FOR DEMANDING BRIBE RS 52,000

Chandigarh November 26:The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign on Saturday, has arrested an assistant field officer of Markfed, Gurlal Singh, posted as branch manager at Banga, SBS Nagar for demanding a bribe of Rs 52,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the accused official has been arrested after investigation of an online complaint lodged at the Chief Minister's anti-corruption helpline.

Giving details he added that the complainant Rajiv Kumar of village Hakimpur, Banga has informed that he is a commission agent in grain market Banga and the Markfed officer was demanding Rs one per bag as a bribe for purchasing 52,000 bags of paddy from his shop in the last season. The complainant further informed the VB that a deal has been struck at Rs 35,000 but he didn't want to pay the bribe.

The spokesperson added that the VB has investigated the allegations levelled in complaint and registered a corruption case against the above mentioned Markfed official after finding him guilty for demanding a bribe money. In this regard the VB has registered a case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station Jalandhar. Further investigation in this case was under progress, he added.

VIGILANCE ARRESTS EO GURDASPUR FOR EMBEZZLEMENT IN MC FUNDS

Chandigarh November 26:Aiming to eradicate the menace of corruption in the state on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday has arrested Executive Officer (EO), Municipal Council (MC) Gurdaspur, Ashok Kumar for misappropriation in the grants released by the state government.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said that the state government had released development grants to the MC Dinanagar in the current fiscal. During investigation by the VB, it has come to light that accused EO Ashok Kumar, during his posting at Dinanagar, has approved a fake bill to purchase street lights from a local vendor to the tune of Rs 1,97,000 but actually no purchase was made and prepared a forged bill to usurp the money for personal gains and to use it as an utilisation certificate meant to be forwarded to the department.

He further informed that the VB probe has also revealed that the accused EO has committed embezzlement in the grants released under PMIDC scheme for Dinanagar MC. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the said EO at VB police station Amritsar. Further investigation of this case was under progress.
