Chandigarh, November 24:As part of the commitment to provide a clean and livable environment to the people of the state, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led government has decided that a rejuvenation project of the Tung Dhab drain in Amritsar will be designed on the lines of Buddha Nullah.

Presiding over an important meeting of urban and rural area committees formed to clean the drain, the Local Government Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar said, in order to make the state pollution-free, more attention towards cleanliness of the rivers, streams and seasonal drains is the need of the hour.

While focusing on various aspects to clean the Tung Dhab drain, Dr. Nijjar said that cleaning project should be divided into three parts for dealing with industrial, dairy and domestic waste separately.

The cabinet minister was apprised that 39 industries are situated along the 20 km long drain passing through the city. Of which 19 industries are water polluting and discharging 28 MLD polluted waste into Tung drain. Similarly, the domestic Sewerage of 17 villages is falling into drain. Apart from this, 176 dairies discharging about 550 KLD waste, throwing livestock dung and other animal waste into the Tung Dhab drain.

Dr. Nijjar instructed the officials of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to strictly prevent the industrial waste containing toxic chemicals from falling into the drain and to ensure constant checking of the industries. He said that Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) should be set up in industrial areas as per the requirement. The Minister directed the officials of Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) to initiate action to immediately deliver land to PPCB for setting up CETP. Similarly, he also asked the officials of the Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board to initiate the process of expansion of the two sewage treatment plants (STPs) of the city.

The cabinet minister directed the officials of the MC Amritsar and Rural Development department to collect cow dung and other waste from the dairies in and outside the city periphery to prevent the dairies from falling waste into the drain. He said that simultaneously, prepare a proposal for setting up a biogas plant so that cow dung and other waste from dairies could be utilised and the usage of the gas produced from this plant, can be ensured. Dr. Nijjar said that the officials of the district administration and rural development department should prevent the Sewerage of the villages into the drain.

The Cabinet Minister also directed the the drainage department to submit a proposal at the earliest to release clean water in the drain, saying that this process would prove effective in cleaning the drain. He also directed the Secretary, Local Government to form a district level joint committee to resolve the problems for early completion of the cleaning project.

Member of Parliament from Amritsar Gurjit Singh Aujla, MLA Amritsar North Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, Secretary Local Government Vivek Pratap, PMIDC & Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board CEO Isha Kalia, Amritsar Municipal Corporation Mayor Karamjit Singh and Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj and other officials were also present in the meeting.

Vigilance nabs revenue Patwari red handed for taking bribe Rs. 10,000, Gurdawar also booked for bribery

Chandigarh, November 24 :Aiming to curb the menace of corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday nabbed a revenue Patwari Lakhbir Singh, posted at Dasuya, in Hoshiarpur district red handed for accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000. In this case Gurdawar Tejinder Singh Goldy has also been nominated and will be arrested soon.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of VB said the above said Patwari was arrested on the complaint of Jugraj Singh, resident of village Usman Shaheed, Tehsil Dasuya.

Giving more details he informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said Patwari and Gurdawar were demanding a bribe of Rs. 10,000 for implementing division and demarcation of his ancestral agriculture land.

After verifying his complaint a VB team laid a trap and the accused Patwari was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 and tainted money was recovered from him in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against both the accused at VB police Jallandhar and further investigation was under progress.

Chandigarh/SAS Nagar, November 24:As part of the ongoing drive against anti-social elements launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police arrested two associates of Gangster Rajan Bhatti, during a raid at Sushant City in Bathinda. Bhatti, a resident of of village Mustafabad Jatta in Gurdaspur, is close-aide of Canada-based terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa.

Those arrested have been identified as Harjasneet Singh (32) of village Kot Shamir in Bathinda and Kamaljeet Singh (26) of village Gulabgarh of Bathinda. The police have also recovered two illegal weapons including .315 bore rifle and .30 bore star make pistol along with ammunition from their possession.

Divulging details, AIG SSOC SAS Ashwani Kapur said that during investigation in a case registered against Lakhbir Landa for disturbing peace and harmony in the state, an accused Rajan Bhatti was found to be in direct contact with Lakhbir Landa and carrying out illegal activities on his behest.

An FIR No. 06 dated 23/08/2022, was registered under sections 153, 153-A, 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 25 of the Arms Act against Lakhbir Singh Landa and his other associates at Police Station SSOC SAS Nagar.

AIG Ashwani Kapur said that accused Rajan Bhatti, who has a notorious past and facing criminal cases including attempt to murder, under NDPS Act and Arms Act in Chandigarh and Punjab, has been on the surveillance of SSOC Police teams and his premises have been raided repeatedly. He said that Bhatti assists Landa in Narcotics Smuggling and weapon supply.

On Wednesday, a police party raided Sushant City at Bathinda from where two associates of Rajan Bhatti were apprehended along with two illegal weapons, said the AIG, while adding that both the accused were arrested for harbouring Rajan Bhatti and possessing illegal weapons.

Meanwhile, AIG Ashwani Kapur said that Police teams are on manhunt to arrest Rajan Bhatti and soon he will be behind the bars.

Chandigarh, November 24:Progressing towards fulfilling yet another poll promise, Punjab Government led by Chief Minister S Bhagwant Mann will soon build School of Eminence to ensure quality school education to children.

Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains revealed this after a meeting with PWD Officials here.

Giving details about the School of Eminence, Mr Bains said that this revolutionary step will give a new direction to school education of the state. Chief Minister S Bhagwant Mann will lay foundation stone of the School of Eminence in coming fortnight.

Chairing the meeting with PWD Officials to discuss drawing and design of the schools, Mr. Bains said that education standard of these schools will be at the par of international level. The Education Minister has been holding meetings with the officials to expedite the whole process.

He further informed that 100 schools of eminence will be built up in first phase.

Education Minister Bains said that the standard of education in these schools will be much better than private schools and he is not only sure but also confident that these schools will become the first choice of parents from the new academic session. He said that days are not far when Punjab will develop its school at the par of international standards as per the vision of Chief Minister of Punjab. Bhagwant Mann is also taking personal interest in making the school education of Punjab up to the date. S. Bains said that the Punjab government is committed to making school education a model education in the entire country and no stone is being left unturned to improve the education system.

Kanugo nabbed red handed for taking bribe Rs. 10,000

Chandigarh, November 24 :The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its campaign against corruption on Thursday nabbed revenue Kanugo Om Parkash, posted at circle Thathi Sohal, in Tarntaran district red handed for accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of VB said the above said Kanugo was caught red handed on the complaint of Mr. Bhalwinder Singh, resident of village Jhabal, district Tarntaran.

Giving details he informed that the complainant approached the VB and alleged that the above said revenue official was demanding a bribe of Rs. 25,000 for providing him demarcation report of his relative and the deal was struck at Rs. 10,000.

After verifying his complaint a VB team laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 and tainted money was recovered from him in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police Amritsar and further investigation was under progress.

JALANDHAR DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY STARTS E-AUCTION OF COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES

• JDA had successfully auctioned properties of around Rs. 19 crores in October

Chandigarh, November 24:Jalandhar Development Authority (JDA) has started the e-auction of commercial, residential properties and a chunk site situated in various cities falling under its jurisdiction. The e-auction has been started and will conclude on December 7, 2022 at 1.00 PM.

Giving details an official spokesperson of Housing & Urban Development Department revealed that properties offered in the e-auction include 62 commercial sites (36 SCO/SCF/SCS & 26 Booths/ Convenient Booths/Strip Booths) and 54 residential plots. These properties are situated at different locations in Jalandhar, Mukerian, Kapurthala & Sultanpur Lodhi. A chunk site situated at Gandhi Vanita Ashram Site, Kapurthala Road, Jalandhar having reserve price of Rs. 14.22 crore is also being offered in the e-auction, he added.

In the last e-auction held in the month of October this year, JDA had successfully auctioned properties amounting approximately to Rs. 19 crores, stated the spokesperson.

He informed that Bidders will have to register themselves on the e-auction portal www.puda.e-auctions.in for participating in the bidding process. The terms & conditions of the e-auction are also available on this portal. Possession of the auctioned sites shall be handed over to the successful bidders within 90 days from the issuance of allotment letter. Details pertaining to the properties including reserve price, nature, location plans, payment and other terms & conditions could be seen on the e-auction portal, he added.
