NEW DELHI,27.02.20-Celebrating the hues of Mother Nature and the fervour of Spring Season, Delhi Tourism in association with Government of Delhi has been organizing ‘Garden Tourism Festival’ in the city for the past three decades. The objective for organising the event is to create awareness about the environment and showcase the rich floriculture of Delhi, among the citizens.

The three-day extravaganza is themed ‘Green Balcony, #Green Delhi’ this year. Emphasizing on the importance of plants in one’s home, the festival brings together various elements that help one create flourishing home gardens. The theme narrates the emerging relevance of gardening in balconies, a trend that makes the best use of space, however constrained it may be, adds significantly to the city’s wellbeing, above and beyond the aesthetic and health-based aspect of growing plants.

The 33rd Garden Tourism Festival will be inaugurated on 28th February, 2020 by Sh. Manish Sisodia, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister & Minister of Tourism, Govt. of Delhi.

The festival over the years has become the biggest flower show in the capital as participants include leading nurseries, horticulture & floriculture societies and suppliers of the horticulture equipment, seeds, fertilizers etc. Along with the flower show, special themed gardens are developed by various government civic agencies as well as private organizations and business houses. A large variety of seasonal and exclusive flowers will be displayed and competitions will be held in various categories. Evenings will witness special cultural programmes to entertain the visitors and also create a festive atmosphere. There will be variety of food stalls and several amusement facilities for children as well.

The venue, Garden of Five Senses spread over 22 acres of land is dotted with colourful flowers which shall add to the charm of the event.

The Highlights of 33rd Garden Tourism Festival are as follows:

• Display of Terrariums, Floral Animals, Potted Plants, Foliage, Medicinal & Herbal Plants, Hanging Baskets, Dahlia, Roses, Cacti, Bonsai, Bougainvillea, cut flowers, nursery stalls, etc

• Painting Competition for children

• Garden Bazaar: sale of flowers, plants, organic items, medicinal plants, gardening accessories, etc.

• Live Entertainment: Folk, cultural and pop-culture performances

• Various food stalls where people will get to savor the taste of different delicacies.

• Activities like magic show, on the spot painting competition for children.

The Garden Tourism Festival is a great platform for garden lovers to meet, interact and showcase their fruit of labour. The major participants during the festival are the horticulture departments of NDMC, CPWD, DJB, DDA, DDA Noida & Greater Noida, SDMC, Northern Railways, North, East & South MCD and others. There will be competitions organized in 32 categories such as potted plants, Dahlia, Hanging Baskets, Foliage Plants, Cactus and Succulents, Aromatic / Herbal and Medicinal Plant, Bonsai Plants of different specifications, Bougainvillea, Floral Animal, Tray Garden, Theme Garden, Annual cut flowers in earthen vases, Vegetables Flower Decoration, Flower arrangements and roses etc.

All the exhibits during Garden Tourism Festival will be evaluated by the judges from respective horticulture area. There will be separate sections to sell the plants, horticulture equipment, pesticides, fertilizers and other general items etc. This will provide an added advantage for the visitors to buy gardening equipment and saplings under one roof.

The festival shall remain open for the public from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm on all three days. Delhi Tourism will also provide free shuttle service from Saket Metro Station to the venue and back.
