Chandigarh,13.12.18-At the behest of SIA: Second Inning Association, a meeting was convened today by SH. B.L.Sharma IAS; Secretary Social Welfare, Union Territory Chandigarh to deliberate on various issues pertaining to the senior Citizens. Officers from various departments attended the meeting. SIA was represented by its Patron Sh. S.S.Lamba, Sh. R.K.Garg President, Wg.Cdr. G.S.Oberoi, Sh. N.K.Kaushal and Sh. Keshav Garg.

SIA stressed on the safety and social attention for the senior citizens by organising visits by volunteers/ NSS representatives. Mr R.K.Garg; President SIA placed on the table a Performa for collecting online, the data of senior citizens. The same was accepted and passed on to the concerned officer for its implementation. Sh. B.L.Sharma IAS passed on the instructions for publishing an advertisement for inviting volunteers.

SIA also requested for a Nodal Officer to specifically look into the issues of Senior Citizens to which was responded positively and instructions were given to assign the job to an officer in the department. It was also informed to the SIA team that a helpline 181 is also functional to which Mr. Garg responded that people are not aware about the same. Mr. B.L.Sharma instructed the concerned officer to issue an advertisement in this regard.

SIA raised a demand for concessional and dedicated parking for the Senior Citizens at various parking lots in the city. It was also pointed out that there is no proper parking for cycles at Sukhna Lake for the morning walkers and people have to chain up their cycles with the railing. Both these issues got a positive response from the chair and agreed upon to take up the matter with the concerned department.

The issuance of Smart Cards for Multiple use to the Senior Citizens was also taken up. It was agreed to and the necessary modalities to be worked out by the I T Department. Sh. S.S.Lamba suggested that the smart card should also cover the Health data of the Senior Citizen which had been taken note of,
