MC Chandigarh tightens action against unauthorized occupation of open lands

MC Commissioner reviews encroachments; departments asked to ensure time-bound action and prevent fresh occupation

Chandigarh, September 16:- The Commissioner Municipal Corporation Chandigarh Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS today convened an interdepartmental meeting to review issues concerning unauthorized occupation, access and activities on open and vacant lands across the city.

The meeting focused on identification of unauthorized occupations and encroachments, fixing clear departmental responsibilities and ensuring coordinated, time-bound action for removal of such occupations.

The concerned departments and agencies were directed to regularly monitor identified sites, take prompt action against unauthorized occupation and put in place effective measures to prevent fresh encroachments. Emphasis was also laid on maintaining cleanliness, ensuring accessibility and proper utilization of open and public spaces.

The Commissioner stressed the need for close interdepartmental coordination and sustained field-level monitoring to ensure that public land remains free from unauthorized occupation and is managed effectively.

The Municipal Corporation reiterated its commitment to coordinated enforcement and responsible management of public spaces, with the objective of maintaining a cleaner, greener and well-managed Chandigarh.

MC Commissioner Amit Kumar inspects parking facilities in Sector 17 Plaza; Directs concerned officials to ensure effective management

Chandigarh, September 16: Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, along with all concerned officials, conducted a detailed inspection of parking facilities at Sector 17 Plaza, Chandigarh, to assess their present status and review the facilities being provided to citizens.

During the inspection, the Commissioner reviewed the overall condition and functioning of the parking facilities, including lighting arrangements, sewerage and drainage systems, cleanliness, entry and exit arrangements, parking management, signage and other basic public amenities.

The concerned officials briefed the Commissioner on the current status of the parking sites and issues requiring attention.

Sh. Amit Kumar directed the officials to ensure proper maintenance of all parking facilities, functional essential services, effective drainage and sewerage arrangements, adequate lighting and cleanliness, while ensuring convenient and safe parking arrangements for citizens and vehicle operators.

He emphasised that parking facilities should be well-maintained, clean, safe and user-friendly, with timely attention to any issues affecting public convenience.
