MAHENDERGARH, 20.05.26-Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh has achieved another significant milestone in the field of research and innovation at the national level. Dr. Savita Budhwar, Associate Professor, Department of Nutrition Biology, has received a prestigious research grant worth Rs. 2.45 crore from the Department of Science and Technology -Science and Heritage Research Initiative (SHRI), Government of India, for undertaking advanced research on millet-based smart protein products.
The research project has been sanctioned for a duration of two years and focuses on the development of innovative millet-derived specialty ingredients and smart protein products through advanced scientific approaches. The project aims to promote nutritious, sustainable, and health-oriented food systems in line with the Government of India’s “Shree Anna” initiative and the growing global focus on millets.
Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor congratulated Dr. Savita Budhwar on this remarkable achievement and stated that receiving such a prestigious national-level research project reflects the academic excellence and research capabilities of the university. He further stated that the project would significantly strengthen the university’s contribution towards innovative, interdisciplinary, and socially relevant research in the field of nutrition and millet-based food innovation.
The University administration including Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Suneel Kumar, Registrar; Prof. Neelam Sangwan, Dean Research; and Prof. Umesh Kumar, Head of Department, also congratulated Dr. Savita Budhwar and her research team on this remarkable achievement.
Dr. Savita Budhwar will serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) from Central University of Haryana in this prestigious multi-institutional consortium project. The project involves participation of reputed national institutions including Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), CSIR laboratories, National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), and G.B. Pant University.
Under the leadership of Dr. Savita Budhwar, the CUH research team will work on modern food processing technologies, nutritional enhancement, value addition, and the development of functional millet-based protein products. The project is expected to contribute significantly towards nutrition security, promotion of millet consumption, food innovation, and entrepreneurship development.
