MAHENDERGARH, 18.09.25-The Department of Environmental Studies at the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh organized the Ozone Day 2025 celebration. This event coincides with the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, observed each year. The theme for this year's celebration was " From Science to Global Action"
Poster and speech competition was organised in the department more than 60 students registered for the events. The winner of poster competitions are Anand from EVS(1st), Anirudh nd Rahul (2nd), and Ritka Solanki (3rd). in poster competition Khsboo from environment Science dept scored 1st position, followed by Jingal from B Voc Industrial Waste management and Rakhi from Chemistry department.
On day 2, an invited lecture by conducted in the department. The opening address was delivered by Professor Mona Sharma, the Department of Environmental Studies. She emphasized the vital role of ozone in our survival and stressed the urgent need for increased awareness and collective action to reduce ozone layer depletion. Dr. Mona Sharma introduced the keynote speaker of the program, highlighting how the ozone layer shields us from harmful UV radiation, affecting both the environment and human health.

Professor Rajesh Dhankar from Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak a distinguished speaker at the event, discussed the natural dynamics of ozone formation and depletion. She also pointed out the uses of harmful chemicals by human activities that accelerate ozone depletion. Professor Dhankar elaborated on the significance of the Montreal Protocol and other international agreements related to ozone protection, stressing the intricate and interrelated consequences of ozone layer depletion. She called for heightened awareness and immediate actions to reduce ozone depletion, advocating the adoption of sustainable practices to safeguard our planet. Professor Dhankar emphasized the importance of individual contributions to environmental protection and encouraged the reduction of ozone-depleting substances in daily life.

The event concluded with a captivating play titled "Ozone Kya Hai?," performed by M.Sc. (Environmental Science) students. The celebration was attended by faculty members, including Dr. Anoop Yadav, Dr. Bhupindra Pratap Singh, and Dr. Dushyant Kumar, along with students and research scholars from various departments. Dr. Bhupendra Pratap Singh extended her heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their valuable contributions to the event in her vote of thanks.
