Ludhiana, 17 June 2025-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, successfully concluded its intensive two weeks-long Poultry Farming Training Programme, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from 24 individuals, comprising 21 men and 3 women from various districts across Punjab.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice Chancellor of the university commended the Extension wing for organizing such well-structured and impactful training programmes. He revealed that the university is committed to serve the livestock farmers and farming by all possible means. Dr Gill said that poultry farming holds great promise for promoting self-employment and sustainable income generation for rural youth.
During the valedictory session, Dr. R. S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening rural livelihoods through livestock-based enterprises. He emphasized the vast potential of poultry farming as a sustainable avenue for economic empowerment and rural advancement.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Course Director and HoD of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, elaborated on the programme’s comprehensive and practice-oriented curriculum. Integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications, the training covered key areas including housing systems, balanced nutrition, animal health care, disease prevention, biosecurity measures, zoonotic risks and effective marketing strategies for poultry products.
The programme was further enriched by a guest lecture from Dr. Harpal Singh Sodhi, Assistant General Manager at Venky’s India Limited, who shared invaluable industry insights and firsthand experiences in modern poultry farming, significantly enhancing the participants' understanding and confidence.
The concluding ceremony was graced by Dr. Parminder Singh, Additional Director of Extension Education and Dr. R.K. Sharma, Director of the Regional Research and Training Centre, Talwara. Both experts shared their perspectives and offered constructive guidance to the trainees.
