CHANDIGARH, 12.05.25-PGIMER Chandigarh recently accomplished a successful deceased donor liver transplant (DDLT) on a 50-year-old male patient from Mohali, who was suffering from decompensated chronic Liver disease. The transplant surgery took place on April 20, 2025, and was performed by the Department of GI Surgery, HPB and Liver Transplantation, led by Prof. T.D. Yadav and Dr. Harjeet Singh. The patient has since been discharged in stable condition.
The success of the transplant was attributed to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team effort, which included Prof Ajay Duseja and Dr. Madhumita Premkumar from the Department of Hepatology, and anaesthesiologists Dr. Kamal Kajal and Dr. Ashish. The administrative support by prof Vipin Kaushal and the team played a crucial role in the success of the program. The contribution of the residents was also crucial to the operation's success.
