CHANDIGARH, 16.09.24-Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER and the Department of Ophthalmology, Government Medical College & Hospital, organized Joint 35th Annual Conference of Chandigarh Ophthalmological Society with the 36th Annual Conference of North Zone Ophthalmological Society (OPTHACON 2024), from 13th to 15th September 2024, under the aegis of Chandigarh Ophthalmological Society. According to the Organizing Chairperson, Prof Amit Gupta and organizing secretary, Prof Parul Ichhpujani 350 delegates from North India participated in this conference. Prof Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER was the Chief Guest and Prof. AK Attri, Director Principal, GMCH was the Guest of Honour for the inaugural ceremony of the conference.
First day of the conference had Wet Labs on Contact Lenses, scleral lenses, intravitreal injections and phacoemulsification. Dacrocystorhinostomy and ptosis surgery were demonstrated on cadaver. The main highlights of the conference were the Dr SS Grewal oration by Padma Shri Dr A K Grover, Dr A D Grover Memorial Oration by Prof Radhika Tandon, from AIIMS, New Delhi. Prof I S Jain memorial Oration was delivered by Prof M R Dogra.
A series of scientific sessions and panel discussions provided insights into the latest best practices for diagnosing and treating various eye conditions. Topics ranged from advancements in cataract surgery to new approaches in managing age-related macular degeneration.
A dedicated session for young ophthalmologists facilitated the exchange of ideas and experiences among emerging professionals.
The free paper session, challenging cases session, and E Poster session provided a platform for both young and seasoned ophthalmologists to share insights and advancements.
Prof Jagat Ram, former Director ,PGI and Prof M R Dogra , former Head of AEC received Life time awards.Prof Suresh Kumar, Head of Eye department, GMCH, Chandigarh was installed as President of North Zone Ophthalmology society during the conference.
