Governor leads International Yoga Day celebration at the Ridge

  • Promotes Yoga for mental and physical well-being

SHIMLA -21st June, 2024-The International Yoga Day was celebrated here at the historic Ridge where Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla along with other prominent people performed yoga. The event was organized by the State Ayurvedic Department.

While congratulating the people on the occasion of International Yoga Day today, the Governor in his message said that it was a matter of pride for us yoga was being adopted worldwide. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing yoga internationally, noting that it is rooted in our ancient culture, tradition and spirituality, which benefits both the body and mind. He said that many diseases are linked to the mind and practicing yoga can purify the mind.

While highlighting the connection of yoga with traditions, he encouraged people to make yoga a part of their daily lives. He said that Yoga enhances mental and physical well-being because it is aligned with nature and those who connect with nature are healthier and it was the best way to purify the mind and soul, essential for a healthy body, stated the Governor.

MLA J.R. Katwal along with senior officers, school children, and prominent town residents, also participated in the yoga session.

Earlier, Yoga and meditation programme was also conducted by Dr. Satya Prakash Pathak from Department of Yoga Studies, Himachal Pradesh University at Raj Bhavan Shimla where the Governor also participated. Secretary to Governor Rajesh Sharma and other staff members also performed yoga.

Governor inaugurates National Book Fair

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today inaugurated the 8th National Book Fair being organised at the historic Ridge in Shimla. The book fair is being organised under the joint aegis of Centre for Art and Readership Development (OCARD India), Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti Evam Paryavaran Manch and Municipal Corporation, Shimla. The book fair is being organised from 21st to 30th June at Padamdev Complex, Shimla.

The Governor appreciated the special contribution of Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti Evam Paryavaran Manch as the local convener of the fair and its successful efforts to promote book culture in Shimla for the last eight years.

The Governor said that there is no better friend than books and hence he too has come to this book fair to meet his friends. He said that in today's digital environment where the reading habit is declining day-by-day, the role of such an event becomes very important. Through this event, books on different subjects, streams and thoughts have been brought together under one roof and this would surely benefit the readers, he added. He emphasized that such events should be organised regularly not only in Shimla but in other districts of Himachal as well.

Rakesh Gupta, Director, OCARD India and S.R. Harnot, President, Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti Evam Paryavaran Manch welcomed the Governor on the occasion.
