Two arrested for consuming liquor at public place

Chandigarh Police arrested Pardeep Goyal R/o Housing Board Colony, Dhanas, Chandigarh, Age 42 Years while he was consuming liquor near wine shop, Sector-20C, Chandigarh on 06.05.2024. A case FIR No. 31, U/S 68-1(B) Punjab Police Act & 510 IPC has been registered in PS-19, Chandigarh. Later he was bailed out. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Chandigarh Police arrested Lokesh Kumar R/o Jhuggi No. 195, Mani Majra Town, Chandigarh, Age 35 Years while he was consuming liquor at backside wine shop, Sector-19, Chandigarh on 06.05.2024. A case FIR No. 32, U/S 68-1(B) Punjab Police Act & 510 IPC has been registered in PS-19, Chandigarh. Later he was bailed out. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Cheating

A case FIR No. 39 U/s 419, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B IPC has been registered in PS-Cyber Crime, Chandigarh on the complaint Vijayander Parsad R/o # 3048/1, HBC, Dhanas, Chandigarh reported that unknown person cheated complainant of Rs. 4,83,000/- regarding online investment in stock firm on 13.10.2023. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Assault/Attempt to Murder

A case FIR No. 63, U/S 323, 325, 34 IPC has been registered in PS-11, Chandigarh on the complaint of Shamsher R/o Jhuggi No. 209-A, Sector-25, Chandigarh who alleged that persons namely Ajit, Jitender and Vansh all R/o Sector-25, Chandigarh beaten complainant near his residence on 23.04.2024. Complainant sustained injuries and was admitted to GMSH-16, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

A case FIR No. 45, U/S 307, 324, 341, 506, 34 IPC has been registered in PS-Maloya, Chandigarh on the complaint of Sachin R/o # 2451, EWS Colony, Maloya, Chandigarh who alleged that persons Rahul, Sunny & others attacked upon complainant’s brother Mohit and stabbed him infront of H.No. 2451, EWS Colony, Maloya, Chandigarh on 05.05.2024. Victim sustained injuries and was admitted to PGI, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Accident

A case FIR No. 47, U/S 279 IPC has been registered in PS-Ind. Area, Chandigarh on the complaint of Sushil Kumar Chaudhary R/o # R2B107, DLF, Sector-5, New Chandigarh, Distt. Mohali, PB, who alleged that Pushpinder Singh R/o Village Sutrahar, Distt. Kangra HP driver of vehicle No. MH-04GC-0453 hit complainant’s Fortuner No. PB-65AR-9933 near Slip Road light point, Hallo Majra chowk, Chandigarh on 06-05-2024. Investigation of the case is in progress.

A case FIR No. 87, U/S 279, 337, 338, 333, 353 IPC has been registered in PS-31, Chandigarh on the complaint of ASI Vijender Singh, Traffic staff who alleged that driver of Bullet M/Cycle No. KL-13AT-1083 namely B. Cibi R/o # 15/44, Raibil Range, Nilgi, Tamilnadu, Age 22 Years hit complainant while on govt. duty near Gurudwara Slip Road, Tribune Chowk, Chandigarh on 06-05-2024. Complainant sustained injuries and admitted in GMCH-32, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Snatching

A case FIR No. 64, U/S 379-B, 34, 411 IPC & 25-54-59 Arms Act has been registered in PS-34, Chandigarh on the complaint Joginder Singh R/o # 6076, Maloya Colony, Chandigarh who reported that 3/4 unknown persons sitting in A Auto No. CH-01PA-1733 with Complainant sped away after snatching complainant’s bag near Gurudwara Chowk, Sector-33 side, Chandigarh on 06.05.2024. Complainant apprehended one person namely Jishan Ahmed, Age 33 years on the spot. Alleged person Jishan Ahmed R/o Vill. Padla, Distt. Bijnor UP, Age 33 years has been arrested and one Kamanidar Knife has been recovered from his possession. Investigation of the case is in progress.

In a major break through a Team of Police Station- Cyber Crime busted a Fake Call Centre with the arrest of 04 accused from Patna, Bihar in Case FIR No 35 DATED 27.04.2024 U/S 419,420,467,468,468, 471, 120B IPC, PS – Cyber Crime, Chandigarh under the leadership of Sh. Ketan Bansal, IPS, SP-Cyber, UT, Chandigarh, under close guidance of Sh. A Venkatesh, DSP/Cyber Crime& IT UT, Chandigarh and supervision of Inspector Sh. Ranjit Singh SHO Police Station-Cyber Crime, Sec.17, Chandigarh. Brief Facts of Case :- It is submitted that above mentioned case was registered on the complaint of Rajbir Singh Rai from Chandigarh in which complainant stated that on dated 17.04.2024 he received a phone call from an unknown number 8274805122 and caller posed himself as Gaurav Kumar employee of Indusind Credit Card and told complainant that if he will travel to foreign country then Rs.7500/- will be add in his bill and if he wants to stop this service. After this complainant got agreed to stop that service, further alleged caller told complainant that he is going to send an apk file and complainant have to install that app and follow the instructions and complainant got agreed for that. After this alleged caller send an apk file to complainant on his whatsapp number to download. After installing this app alleged caller asked to fill all details of complainant’s credit card and the same were filled by the complainant, after filling details by the complainant he received 03 deduction messages of transactions (49720.30/-, 80161.30/-, 60880.90/-) total 190762/- from his Indusind Credit Card. Again they called with another number 8274805122 posed himself as another employee of Indusind Credit Card and asked him to again open the same apk file and fill all the details again but till then complainant got suspicious and got understood that he had been duped by fraudster and a case was registered. After registration of the above case during investigation the raiding party has been constituted to proceed further into investigation and on the basis of Technical support & secret information, a raid was conducted in the area of East Krishna Nagar, Kheminchak Road, Patna, Bihar and from Room Number 401, Veena Complex, Kheminichak Road, East Krishna Nagar, Patna, Bihar; 04 person namely Shahidul S/O Noor Islam, Gautam Kumar S/O Montu Paswan, Bablu Kumar S/O Ranjit Paswan and Sarvan Kumar S/O Ram Kumar Singh. Further investigation in this matter is going on.

Modus Operandi of the case:- The modus operandi of this case is that, scammers pretends to be the Bank officials and made a call on behalf of a particular bank. First they took the victim in good faith and then allure them with various kinds of scheme going on for their Credit cards. Later, they ask them if they want to receive the offer or not and send them apk files to their whatsapp number. Fraudsters ask the recipient of the message to download the APK file and to fill up the details of the credit card. This method involves injecting malicious apps into mobiles as a result of which users receive files directly in their accounts and application are downloaded on the device on clicking on the files. The data obtained automatically sent to the fraudster, who uses it to commit crimes and steal money from their accounts.

Tips: 1. Always check and verify completely the SMS received regarding transactions from Banks.

2. Avoid clicking on links received via SMS or WhatsApp, as scammers often use these avenues to manipulate victims.

3. If you receive the message, which is usually sent via WhatsApp, don't click. You can first check the name of the file that was sent. If it says APK at the back, just ignore the message and then block the number immediately.

4. Don’t receive/ send any payment without verifying it.

5. Turn on 2-step verification/authentication for all your social media accounts.

6. Use privacy safeguards provided on different social media sites to prevent any information from being misused.

7. Protect your systems/devices through security software such as anti-virus with the latest version.

8. Be suspicious of all strangers and offers. When using such a popular and accessible platform, it’s important to understand the responsibility you have to protect yourself.
