SHIMLA -2nd April, 2024-The State Taxes and Excise department has started a comprehensive campaign against illegal liquor trade in the state. Disclosing this here today Commissioner Dr. Yunus said that during an intensive operation, the department raided 10 illegal liquor manufacturing units (Bhatties) during the search operation in Dabat and Majri areas of Bilaspur district. In a joint action taken with the Excise department of Punjab, 18000 bulk liters of Lahan were recovered and destroyed. Its estimated price is about Rs. 18 lakh.
He said that the team of the Excise department of District Una has recovered 13,730 bulk liters of liquor in two cases.
The Excise Commissioner said that the department was continuously taking action to curb the illegal liquor trade. Recently, the team of the department, in joint action with the Punjab State Excise team and police, recovered and destroyed about 54,200 liters of raw liquor in Chhani and Bailey Indora of the area, whose value is estimated to be about Rs. 54.20 lakh,. Recently, the department also recovered 500 boxes of English liquor and 50 boxes of beer which were being transported illegally to Joginder Nagar from Ner Chowk of Mandi district.
He said that teams of the department have also recovered illegal liquor in Shimla, Baddi, Mandi and Kullu districts. He said that after the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, the Excise Department had recovered 2.20 lakh bulk liters of illegal liquor.
