VICE CHANCELLOR’S STATEMENT

Chandigarh May 27, 2023

1. I take this opportunity of welcoming all the Members of this august House of Panjab University, Chandigarh and would like to wish a very Good Morning to the esteemed members. I look forward to your valuable guidance for the growth of this historic University.

2. With a deep sense of sorrow, I may inform the honorable members about the sad demise of:-

i) Mother of Prof. Sushil Tomar on 03.05.2023.

ii) Father of Prof. Ravi Inder Singh on 21.05.2023.

3. I am pleased to inform the honourable members of the Syndicate that:-

i) Prof. Rajat Sandhir, Department of Biochemistry has been awarded INSA (Indian National Science Academy) Teachers Award for the year 2022.

iv) Dr. Vishal Sharma (Forensic Science) has been awarded a major research project of Rs. 47,65,600/- by the Directorate of Forensic Science (DFSS) Ministry of Home Affairs.

vi) Dr. Arvind Kumar, UIET, has been awarded a major research project of Rs. 362.32 Lakh entitled “Design and Development of System-on-Chip for Single-Lead Wearable Electrocardiogram (ECG) for Medical Devices” by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.

viii) Dr. Ravi Pratap Barnwal, Deptt. of Biophysics and Dr. Gurpal Singh, UIPS were sanctioned four research grants and one Karyashala grants in last six months i.e. (i) DST-CSRI grant – fund of around Rs. 93 lakh by DST under Cognitive Science Research Initiative; (ii) ICMR Grant: fund of around Rs. 60 lakh sanctioned by ICMR; (iii) SERB-CRG grant: another project of Rs. 60 lakh was approved by SERB; (iv) CSIR Grant: project by CSIR of Rs. 45 lacs (v); SERB-Karyashala grant: a workshop entitled “Biology meets nanotechnology” is funded by SERB to train 25 PhD and PG students.

Syndicate Meeting

Chandigarh May 27, 2023-The Syndicate in its meeting held today deliberated on all the agenda items and few of them are as follows:-

The Syndicate approved the recommendation (No.3) of the Committee dated 26.03.2023 w.r.t. the guidelines/fee structure of certain courses, for the implementation in SPEC, HQ Spl DG (WC) BSF, Chandigarh, from the academic session 2023-24.

The Syndicate approved the minutes the Committee dated 09.03.2023 with regard to grant adoption of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, to suggest amendments to be incorporated in the relevant sections of Act.

The Syndicate approved the examiner reports of (i) Professor Kevin Varvell, (ii) Professor Prolay K. Mal and (iii) Professor Michal Szleper, in respect of evaluation of research work of Dr. Manjit Kaur for award of D.Sc. degree.

The Syndicate approved the minutes of the Committee dated 28.04.2023, to reform the application forms for refund of examination fee.

The Syndicate approved the recommendation (No.5) of Faculty of Languages meeting dated 27.03.2023 regarding addition in eligibility criteria for admission in M.A. (Hindi) w.e.f. the academic session 2023-24.

The Syndicate approved the execution of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Department of Punjabi, Panjab University, Chandigarh and American Institute of Indian Studies (AIS), New Delhi.

The Syndicate approved the minutes of the Committee dated 21.04.2023 to examine the cases for appointment on compassionate grounds.

The Syndicate approved the recommendations (No.2&3) of the committee dated 02.05.2023 with regard to rotation of Headship at PUSSGRC, Hoshiarpur.

The Syndicate considered the communication of the Ministry of Human Resource Development dated 08.01.2020 regarding interest on employees’ own contribution towards Provident Fund w.r.t. those employees who continued beyond the age of 60 years in pursuance of the interim direction of Hon’ble Court and allowed the period upto one year after the date when they actually left the University service as a special case.

The Syndicate approved the minutes of the meeting dated 22.05.2023 with regard to Regulations and Admission Guidelines for admission to the 1^st year to FYUG program of NEP 2020 at Panjab University and its affiliated and constituent Colleges, for the session 2023-24.

The Syndicate approved the minutes of the Committee dated 04.05.2023 to finalize the Admission Guidelines (for affiliated Colleges), for the session 2023-24.

The Syndicate approved the minutes of the Committee dated 05.05.2023 with regard to finalize the template for appointment of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Professors, Principal and Direct Recruitment, CAS Promotion for Aided/Unaided Colleges in Punjab/UT Chandigarh, as per UGC Regulations 2018.
