Shimla,25.05.23- 25-05-2023-The Himachal Pradesh National Law University and its Centre for Parliamentary Studies (CPS) organized Intra University Mock Parliament Competition on 25.05.2023 (Thursday). The Competition was organized under the leadership of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal at the University campus. The Mock Parliament provided a platform to the students of the University to participate in the competition and know the parliamentary process. .
Prof (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, delivered the welcome address in which she highlighted the essence of democracy and its importance to our country. She inculcated values in the future parliamentarians through self composed poem.
Prof (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Director (C.P.S.) and Registrar, HPNLU, organized the event.
Shri Kaul Singh Thakur, Former Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Shri Sanjay Awasthy, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Himachal Pradesh and Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Sindhu, Dean and Chairman, Department of Law, Himachal Pradesh University were the judges for the event.
Students of the University participated in the competition with enthusiasm, debating in favour and against a Mock Bill, titled, ‘The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023’, by assuming the roles of various Members of Lok Sabha.
In the Valedictory session of the competition , Shri Kaul Singh Thakur addressed the participants in which he stated that the H.P. Vidhan Sabha is the most disciplined Vidhan Sabha in the country and promised to bring to the attention of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of H.P. about the issues of budget allocation to the University and for sports ground and hostels of the University.
Shri Sanjay Awasthy addressed the students and stressed the need for attaining deep knowledge instead of superficial knowledge. He also promised to bring in the knowledge of the Hon’ble C.M. of H.P. the issues faced by the university particularly regarding the hostels for girls .
Prof (Dr.) Sanjay Sindhu highlighted the principle of constitutional supremacy and urged the students to be proud of our Constitution and democracy.
