CHANDIGARH,15.04.23-The Department of Clinical Hematology and Medical Oncology, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Myeloma Friends Charitable Trust (Patient Support Group) jointly organized a highly informative and insightful meeting in the New OPD Block, PGI, Chandigarh. This program was a significant success, attracting a large number of multiple myeloma patients and their families from Northern India.
The distinguished speakers at the event included renowned medical experts like Professor and Head of Clinical Haematology and Medical Oncology, Dr. Pankaj Malhotra, along with Dr. Aditya Jandial, Ms. Richa Pandey, Ms. Roselien Naik, and Ms. Ujjwala, all from PGI. The event was also graced by the presence of eminent personalities such as Sh. Dilip Mevada, Founder of Myeloma Friends Charitable Trust India, Mrs. Vinita Menon, Trustee of Myeloma Friends Charitable Trust, India, and Sh. Inderjeet Khattar, Advocate, and Trustee of Myeloma Friends Charitable Trust.
He emphaseized that people especially above the age of 50 years should not ignore bone pains including backache and unexplained kidney damage and should undergo evaluation for multiple myeloma. A simple blood test (protein electrophoresis) can provide information in more than 60% of patients. Sh. Dilip Kumar Mevada, a 60-year-old multiple myeloma survivor of 13 years, shared his inspiring story of survival and provided invaluable advice to fellow patients on managing the disease. Ms. Vinita Menon, a 64-year-old multiple myeloma survivor of 12 years, also shared her valuable insights on living with myeloma and discussed ways to maintain a good quality of life.
Sh. Inderjeet Khattar, an advocate and retired Assistant General Manager of Punjab National Bank, Panchkula, Haryana, shared his experience as a caregiver for his wife who had multiple myeloma. He emphasized the importance of providing quality care, timely diagnosis, and continuous support for the patients and their families.
