SAS Nagar (Mohali), January 21: Describing the ‘Schools of Eminence’ as a revolutionary step for ensuring golden future of the students, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today said that it was a giant leap forward towards becoming a real frontrunner in field of education.

The Chief Minister, while addressing the gathering during opening of School of Eminence here today, said that during the stints of previous governments Punjab was shown front ranking state in education only on paper. However, he said that now the state will really lead the country in imparting quality education to the students. Bhagwant Mann bemoaned that the Government schools were striving for basic infrastructure and manpower but the previous governments misled the people by presenting forged figures.

The Chief Minister said that as these governments ignored an important sector like education so the state behind in this field. He said that several students were forced to leave their education in between thereby ruining their bright future. Bhagwant Mann said that due to lack of resources and laxity of previous governments girls were not able to pursue their education.

The Chief Minister said that unfortunately those who presented the fake figures were not from other states but were the politicians hailing from Punjab only. Bhagwant Mann asserted that his government has made a firm commitment to impart world class education to the students. He said that the day is not far when the students from state will scale new heights across the globe after getting education from these Government schools

The Chief Minister said that these leaders wanted to give a push to their political career that too at the cost of compromising with the future of the students from weaker and underprivileged sections of society. He said that due to regressive policies of these leaders the state has lagged behind in fields of health and education thereby jeopardising the progress of youth. Bhagwant Mann said that wise people of state had understood the bad intentions of these politicians due to which they have been routed out and chance has been given to fresh faces.

The Chief Minister said that baffled over their humiliating defeat these leaders are resorting to various tantrums to defame the Government. He said that these leaders are leaving no stone unturned for criticising the government over non issues. Bhagwant Mann said that the real problem is that the state government has acted sternly against mafia and illegal activities patronised by these leaders adding he said that people had given a whopping mandate to his party and he will upheld faith of people at all costs.

The Chief Minister said that these 117 schools of eminence being set up in 23 districts of state are temples of quality education. He said that the purpose of setting up these schools is to give wings to the dreams of the bright students of government schools. Bhagwant Mann envisioned that these schools will enable the students to compete with their convent educated peers in various competitive exams across the country.

The Chief Minister said that these schools are being set up to cherish the aspirations of our great freedom fighters. He also announced that to name these schools on great martyrs and national leaders who had laid down their lives at altar of their motherland. Bhagwant Mann said that this initiative will be a real tribute to these iconic leaders who steered the country to freedom.

The Chief Minister emphasised that these schools will groom the students for futuristic needs and emerge Punjab as role model in education sector across the country. He envisioned that the day is not far when these government schools will provide better education than the private schools. Bhagwant Mann said that the parents of students will now prefer to send their children in these schools than the private schools.

The Chief Minister said that such schools have already revolutionised the education sector in Delhi. He said that now it is the turn of Punjab where this model will be implemented successfully. Bhagwant Mann expressed hope that these schools will transform the education sector in Punjab and open new avenues for students.

Describing the teachers as ‘nation builders’, the Chief Minister said that they have a huge responsibility on their shoulders. He said that the teachers have to play a pivotal role in bringing qualitative change in education sector. Bhagwant Mann exhorted the teachers to discharge their duties with utmost professional commitment to give a major push to education secto

The Chief Minister said that the teachers will be the foot soldiers to usher in a new era of education reforms in the state. He said that his government has decided to send 36 teachers from state to Singapore for updating their expertise. Bhagwant Mann said that the motive is to ensure that teachers are able to learn about the advanced practices prevailing across the globe in education sector.

Addressing the gathering, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that this is the dream project of the Chief Minister. He said that with every passing day Punjab is witnessing new reforms in education sector. Bains said that these schools will help in opening the doors of competitive world for the students of Government schools.

Chandigarh, January 21:Ahead of Republic Day celebrations 2023, Punjab Police on Saturday conducted a special operation “OPs Eagle-II” aimed at searching for criminal and anti-social elements and apprehending suspicious people for verification from across the state.

The operation was conducted on directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav in all the 28 Police districts with an aim to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per the Vision of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann.

The cordon and search operation (CASO) was carried out at vulnerable places including Railway Stations and Bus Stands etc from 11am to 4pm simultaneously across the state and ADGP/IGP rank officers from Punjab Police Headquarters were deputed in each Police district to personally supervise the operation. Police teams have also checked Hotels and Sarais situated adjoining Bus Stands and Railway Stations.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla, who joined SSP Vivek Sheel Soni in Rupnagar to personally supervise the operation in the district, said that all the CPs/SSPs were asked to mobilize a maximum number of officers and manpower for this operation to lay strong ‘nakas’ at district/city sealing points under the supervision of Gazetted officers.

He said that over 315 patrolling parties were deputed across the state to look for suspicious persons, besides, as many as 462 well-coordinated hi-tech Nakas involving over 5000 Police Personnel, were also set up under the supervision of gazetted officers in the state for a thorough search of suspected vehicles/persons while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the general public. As many as 281 railway stations and bus stands were checked by the different police teams in the state under the supervision of an SP rank officer, he added.

He said that during the drive, the police teams have frisked at least 11939 suspicious persons, besides, conducting surprise checks at 895 Hotels and Sarais situated adjoining to Bus Stands and Railway Stations.

Divulging details regarding the outcome of the operation, the ADGP said that police teams have apprehended 91 after registering 76 First Information Reports (FIR) against anti-social elements.

Recounting the achievements of the last nine months, the ADGP said that Punjab Police has busted 15 terror modules with the arrest of 103 terrorists/radicals after recovering 30 sophisticated Rifles, 191 Revolvers/Pistols, and 17 Drones. As far as gangsters are concerned, Punjab police have succeeded in busting 140 gangster/criminal modules with the arrest of 555 gangsters/criminals and neutralizing two, and recovering 510 weapons and 129 vehicles used in criminal activities from their possession, he added.

ADGP Arpit Shukla reiterated that such operations would continue till the menace of drugs and Gangsters was wiped out from the state.

Chandigarh/Barnala, January 21-Dedicating projects of irrigation worth crores to the people of Barnala, the Minister for Water Resources Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government was committed towards meeting with all demands of farmers and ensuring their interests.

The Minister laid foundation stone of work of laying underground water pipes as well as lining the tributary at village Kothe Rajinder Pura. He said that this project is being constructed at a cost of Rs 43 lakhs and on the completion of this project 174 hectares acres of land will be irrigated. At the completion of this 2511 meters pipe Line network, the villages lying at the tail end of tributary will be highly benefitted.

There after the Minister inaugurated Rs 85 lakh worth project at village Uppli near Dangarh minor which lies in around 7.70 km of area. The water carrying capacity of the structural has been increased by 20% after the concrete lining. Minister meet here said that with the completion of this project villages of Kattu, Dangarh, Upli , Dhanaula and nearby areas are getting benefit. The water carrying capacity of this minor is around 7.70 to 8.43 cusecs which is enough to irrigate around 2800 acres of land.

At village Harigarh near Dhanaula Badbar main road on the Joga distributary the Minister inaugurated Rs 26.91 crore project of upgradation under which 4.75 km of concrete lining work has been completed.

He added that the capacity of this distributary is around 301.32 cusecs to 327.74 cusecs, which irrigates around 108000 acres of land. This covers the villages of Harigarh, Attar Singh Wala, Dhanaula, Bhure, Kubbe, Aspal Kalan, Aspal Khurd, Badra, Bhaini Fatta and Dhurkot. He added that with the concrete lining not only seepage has reduced instead the water carrying capacity of water bodies have increased by 20%.

DR NIJJAR REVIEW THE PREPRATION FOR THE BEAUTIFICATION OF AMRITSAR IN CONNECTION WITH G-20 SUMMIT

MINISTER DIRECTED THE OFFICIAL TO COMPLETE ALL WORKS RELATED TO G-20 SUMMIT BY THE END OF FEBRUARY MONTH

Chandigarh, January 21- Taking stock of the preparations for the G-20 summit to be held in Amritsar city, the Local Government Minister held a meeting with the district officials. In this meeting, he instructed the officials to complete all the development works related to G20 by the end of February month.

Giving more information in this regard, Local Government Minister, Dr.Nijjar said that the G-20 summit is going to be held in the holy city of Amritsar in March 2023. Presidents and Prime Ministers of major countries and other international delegates will also attend this G-20 summit. He said that it is a matter of great pride for the state that this international level event is going to be held in Punjab.

Dr.Nijjar reviewed the development works related to the beautification of Amritsar and has given instructions to the officials related to this work that No stone will be left unturned for the development of Amritsar city in connection with the G-20 Summit. The minister also told the officials that Amritsar city of the state has to be presented on the world map on behalf of India, so any official who neglects the development works for beautification of Amritsar will not be spared.

He also asked the officials to ensure that whatever development works are being carried out, they should be of good quality. He said that these development works are not only for the event, but are being done according to the needs of the people. He also instructed the official to present Punjabi culture on them to beautify the places of the city which are along the roads or under the elevated roads and roundabouts.

He also said that the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann is giving priority to Punjabi language in the state. Therefore, he asked the officials to ensure that whatever is written in public places should be written in Punjabi language only.

On this occasion, he also saw the artworks prepared by the Commissioner Corporation Mr. Sandeep Rishi for the beauty of the city.

In this meeting, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Harpreet Singh Sudan, Police Commissioner Mr. Jaskaran Singh, SDM Mr. Harpreet Singh, SDM Mankanwal Singh, SDM Baba Bakala Smt Alka Kalia, DCP Parminder Singh Bhandal and officials of various departments were present.

Vigilance Bureau nabs Police Inspector taking bribe Rs 7 lakh to help in court case

Chandigarh, January 21 :The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the State, as directed by the Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, nabbed a Inspector of Police (SI) Baljit Singh red handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the accused Inspector Baljit Singh (No 111/BR Tarntaran), posted as Traffic Incharge Tarntaran has been arrested on the complaint of Sharnjit Singh Jimmi resident of Model Town, Kharar, SAS Nagar district. He added that the above said accused was earlier suspended in a NDPS case by the police department.

Giving details he informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official was demanding a bribe of Rs. 10,00,000 in lieu of getting exemption to his father and mother from appearances in a court case. He further informed that the accused police official has asked to provide this bribe money in two instalments of Rs 7 lakh and Rs 3 lakh.

The spokesperson said after verifying this complaint, a VB team laid a trap and the accused police official was caught red handed while taking a bribe money of Rs. 7 lakh as a first installment in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused SI at VB police station, flying squad-1, Punjab at SAS Nagar and further investigation was under progress.

Cheema leads Taxation department teams in surprise checking of goods vehicles near Rajpura

Around 150 vehicles checked, 38 detained for verification

Tax evasion will not be tolerated in the state – Cheema

Chandigarh, January 21-Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday led the Tax department teams to conduct a special checking drive at Rajpura-Sirhind, G.T. Road. Around 150 vehicles carrying Iron scrap, Mixed goods, Furniture, Parcel, Black ash, steel pipes, Rice, bricks etc were checked during this special drive. Out of these, 38 vehicles were detained for verification as most of them were either not supported by genuine documents/ E-Way bills or dis-ingenious inward supply while carrying out data mining then and there. A tentative penalty and fine of Rs. 60 lakh will be imposed on the detained vehicles.

Revealing this in a statement issued here, Excise and taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that repeated information was received from various sources that the GST was being evaded for the goods being transported by some trucks and other vehicles. He said that acting on this information, he along with a team of the tax department checked the vehicles on the national highway near Rajpura.

Cheema said that strict action has been initiated against all such tax evaders whereas vehicles transporting goods with correct bills were allowed to pass without any harassment. He said that this drive was mainly aimed to deter the tax evaders and to perpetuate a message from the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government to the genuine tax payers that there would be no harassment to them at all. He said that the taxation department has also provided a bilingual WhatsApp Chatbot-cum-helpline number 9160500033 to assist honest taxpayers.

Reiterating that tax evasion would not be tolerated in the state, Cheema said that the Data Mining Wing has been detecting tax evasion activities with the help of ETTSA (Departments own Technical Service Agency) and various other platforms. He further added that the Data Mining Wing prepares reports based upon irregularities and discrepancies detected in the data provided by GSTN and ETTSA and these reports were being shared with concerned wings of the department for necessary action besides ensuring the compliance from them. He said that the Taxation department has also established a new Tax Intelligence Unit (TIU) in the State GST Commissionerate to monitor GSTN platform for better analyses of the digital data available over it.

In this drive, Taxation Commissioner K.K. Yadav, Addl Commissioner-I Viraj S. Tidke, Director Investigation H.P.S. Ghotra, ACST MW Jalandhar Kamalpreet Singh also accompanied the Excise and Taxation Minister.

PUNJAB GOVT. DECLARES LOCAL HOLIDAY IN GURDASPUR DISTRICT ON BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF SATGURU SRI BAWA LAL JI

Chandigarh, January 21:The Punjab Government has declared a local holiday on January 23, 2023 in Gurdaspur district on the auspicious occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Satguru Sri Bawa Lal Ji.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the State Government said that all the offices of Punjab Government, boards/corporations and government educational institutions will remain closed on Monday, January 23, in Gurdaspur district. A notification in this regard has been issued by the Personnel Department.
