MONING FUNCTION
CHANDIGARH, 03.12.22-Under the agies of Founders and Directors of Mount Carmel School, Dr. Annie Charles Samuel and Dr. Earnest Charles J. Samuel, the 35th Founders' Week Celebration, the Annual Day Function of Classes 3 to 5 of Mount Carmel School, Sector 47-B, Chandigarh was held on 3rd December 2022 at Tagore Theatre. The theme of the function was 'One World - One Hope!' It was a moment of pride and joy for the school as it celebrated the function with great zeal and enthusiasm post pandemic.
The event started with Scripture Reading, followed by welcoming the Chief Guest, Mrs. Sarabjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh, and other dignitaries through a refreshing welcome dance. The students participated in various dances, viz., Barn Dance, Salakot Dance, Gypsy Dance, Philippine Dance, and, K Pop Dance. A lovely medley of songs was presented by the Junior Choir of the school, and the Finale, entitled 'Children - The Hope of the World' perfectly concluded the event.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Sarabjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh felicitated the Prize Winners under three Categories: Best All Round Student of the Class for the year 2021-22, Shining Stars and Rolling Trophies for the current Session, including the Best Dressed Class, Most Disciplined Class and Best Kept Class and the prestigious Jonathan Ivan Charles Rolling Trophy for the best student in cultural Activities (Juniors). The Chief Guest was full of praise for the juniors for presenting mesmerizing performances and lauded the school , students, their parents and staff for working towards zero tolerance to single use plastic in school and at homes, creating an awareness among the students in safeguarding the future.
Evening Function
The Chief Guest was Smt. Anindita Mitra, the Municipal Commissioner of Chandigarh. The School Governing Body and the School Management Committee members were the other dignitaries who graced the occasion. This was the first ‘Zero Waste’ function of the City Beautiful, conducted in association with the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.
The event commenced with the enunciation of an auspicious verse from the holy Bible followed by a welcome speech by the Head Girl. The programme comprised of Welcome Dance filled with hues and vibrant foot tapping moves, Ravishing Russian Dance, Alluring Arabian Dance, Energetic Turkish Dance, Vigorous Barn Dance, Exuberant Egyptian Dance, Fascinating Flamenco Dance, Scintillating Salsa Moves, Fantabulous Bhangra and Medley by the Senior Choir perfectly synchronizing in rhythm. Gushing with mirth, the school’s achievements were shared through the annual report of the past session by the School Cabinet Members, followed by the Prize Distribution wherein the Chief Guest, Smt. Anindita Mitra, I.A.S., Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, the Founders and Directors of the School, Dr Earnest Charles J Samuel and Dr Annie Charles, alongwith the Principal, Dr. Parveena John Singh, did the honour of bestowing numerous and varied awards upon the deserving students including Rank Holders, Best All Round Student of the Class of the Session 2021-22. The students making their names in various competitions and championships were awarded with Shining Star Award 2022. Special Rolling Trophies were awarded for the current session, which included prestigious trophies, viz., Jefferson Samuel Rolling Trophy for the Best Student in cultural activities(Seniors), Rev. Samuel John Rolling Trophy for the Best House of the Year. Dr. Annie Charles Samuel & Dr. Charles Samuel Rolling Trophy for the highest aggregate marks scored by the student of the School in the Class XII CBSE Examinations conducted in March 2022 was bagged by Nathan Paul Lazarus (Class XII), who scored 96.2% marks. He was also given a cash award of Rupees 10,000/-.
The Chief Guest, Smt. Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, in her address highlighted the idea of adopting zero tolerance to single use plastic waste. She reiterated that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a mass movement to realize Gandhiji’s dream of a Clean India. Spearheading the mission to make Chandigarh the number one city in the country in terms of waste minimization, she appealed everyone to come forward to make this drive a success by cleaning the surroundings. She opined that such campaigns would focus on ensuring complete elimination of single-use plastic and adopt 3R principles- reduce, reuse and recycle. She appreciated the mesmerizing programme even the audience was awestruck with the talent and the skills exhibited in each performance. The function proved to be an astounding visual treat that allured every spectator connected to the show. The event came to a close with a Vote of Thanks presented by the Head Boy and rendering of the National Anthem.
The Principal, Dr. Parveena John Sign applauded the incredible efforts of all the stakeholders involved in making the event a grand success and spoke at length about the plethora of opportunities offered by Mount Carmel School. She added that Mount Carmel School believes in zero tolerance to single use plastic. Teaching children as early as possible about the hazardous effects of plastic can provide a cleaner planet free of plastic for future generations.
