NEW DELHI:26.10.22-Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia on Wednesday exposed how the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to get Delhi Government's ambitious initiative of 'Dilli Ki Yogshala' scrapped. He shared how the concerned officers are being continuously threatened with suspension and asked to discontinue this program from November 1. To ensure a healthy lifestyle for the Delhi residents, the Delhi government had started ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ one and half years ago. Under this program, the government had urged residents from all across Delhi to participate if they want to do yoga and learn it under the guidance of trained instructors. The trained yoga instructors were to be provided by the government at the place of choice of the residents.
The Deputy Chief Minister stated, "BJP is conspiring to stop the Delhi Government's flagship 'Dilli Ki Yogshala' program; deliberately hampering attempts to ensure a healthy and happy lifestyle for the people of Delhi. BJP is hellbent on depriving Delhi residents of free yoga from November 1 by putting pressure on officers to discontinue ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’. Under the leadership of CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, we are committed to providing a healthy lifestyle to every citizen of Delhi, we will not let anyone stop ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’. CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal has given his approval for continuing 'Dilli Ki Yogshala', file now pending at LG's end. The Prime Minister himself is fond of yoga and promotes it across the country. We hope that the LG will allow us to continue the program for the best interest of Delhi residents."
Shri Manish Sisodia said, “BJP is trying pressure tactics on the officials of the Delhi Government to get the beneficial and flagship initiatives of the Kejriwal government scrapped. Officials are being threatened by BJP leaders in the name of suspension if they are not agreeing to their baseless demands. The new initiative under their target is the Delhi government’s ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’.”
He added that more than 17,000 people at 600 spots across the national capital are getting the benefit of this program. Of these people, 11,000 are those who have been suffering from some kind of ailments after COVID infection during the pandemic. 2000 are those who had some very serious ailments after COVID but “Dilli ki Yogshala” helped them heal gradually. It is the vision of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that this program should be expanded and more residents of Delhi should benefit from this. But BJP wants to stop it and is trying all means.
Shri Manish Sisodia said that now BJP has hatched a new conspiracy to stop the ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ program from November 1 by pressurising the officials and not letting them work.
Shri Manish Sisodia said, “We have spoken to the officials and analysed the whole situation. We will ensure that this initiative is not stopped at any cost as it is benefitting more than 17000 people across the capital. More people want to join this program and learn from our qualified instructors. To ensure the continuity of this program we have sent the file to the Lieutenant Governor for approval. I hope that he will make the right decision in the best interest of the Delhi residents and will allow us to continue with this program.”
It is to be noted that the ‘Dilli Ki Yogashala’ also played an important role in the time of COVID. Patients were given free online yoga classes by the instructors of ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ and worked as their companions in their time of isolation. During that time 4500 infected people living in home isolation benefited from this.
*What is the Delhi Government’s Dilli Ki Yogshala program?*
Dilli Ki Yogshala is an initiative of the Government of the NCT of Delhi to make yoga reach door to door and to transform it into a mass movement by providing a certified yoga instructor to the public. The aim is to highlight the importance of meditation and yoga in improving the physical and mental health of citizens. As an ancient practice, yoga has proven to be an effective means of improving the quality of one’s life. Through daily practice, one can inculcate mindfulness and be in greater harmony with their environment.
The program is run by the Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU).
An integral component of this initiative is to inculcate an enhanced sense of community within citizens. Citizens will have the opportunity to collectively experience mindfulness by coming together and performing meditation and yoga. Through this initiative, the government aspires to make zones of meditation and positive thinking, out of venues that are chosen by residents themselves.
