The award, announced on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2022, recognises outstanding contributions towards advancing tobacco control through innovation, digital public health, evidence generation and policy support. The honour was received by Prof. Sonu Goel, President of the Resource Centre for Tobacco Control and Professor at Department of Community Medicine and School of public Health, PGIMER Chandigarh by Dr. Yvan JF. Hutin, WHO Country Representative (Director) for India.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director, IPHMDP, and Professor, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, emphasized the importance of investing in nursing leadership and global knowledge exchange.

The training programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. P.V.M. Lakshmi (Nodal Officer for I-FETP), Professor of Epidemiology, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh,with mentorship from PGIMER faculty and experts from the World Health Organization.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. Sonu Goel, Sonu Goel, Program Director, IPHMDP, and Professor, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Prof.VivekLal, Director, PGIMER, while commending the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology for this innovative initiative, stated, "The launch of India's first DM Super-Specialty Programme in Paediatric Dermatology through the INI-SS pathway is a landmark achievement that reflects PGIMER's commitment to academic excellence, innovation and patient-centred healthcare".

The camp was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Jain, Dean (Academics), PGIMER, Chandigarh, who appreciated the initiative of PGIMTU and commended the Medical Technologists for their continued contribution to patient care as well as community welfare.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr Sonu Goel, Convenor of SSG and Professor at PGIMER, remarked:"Laboratory data cannot exist in an academic vacuum; uniform, action-oriented SOPs are the critical bridge that translates chemical testing into enforceable national regulations capable of countering aggressive tobacco industry interference and legal challenges."

Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (TCT) successfully organized its 106th Thalassaemia Awareness Programme on 2nd July 2026 for Class XII students, along with Prof. (Dr.) Bharti, NINE, PGI; Coordinator – Government of India, and teachers from Government Model Senior Secondary Schools, Kangra (Himachal Pradesh).
