Chandigarh, June 8, 2020: To celebrate the World Environment the department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration and Yuvsatta-an NGO in association with Eco Clubs in Schools organized various online Inter-School competitions, inviting students and teachers to contribute Poems, Posters, Short Mobile Videos and Repurposed Art work made out of waste material on five different themes of ‘I am with nature’, ‘Birds Connect our World’, ‘Save Plant & Animal Species’, ‘Covid Response: Stay Alert’ & ‘Time to focus on the issue of Biodiversity’.

Appreciating the constructive engagement while most are at homes Mr. Debendra Dalai, Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration said that overwhelming participation of around 970 students and teachers representing over 40 prominent Schools of the city shows that young people these days not only actively participate to promote values of green living but also rate environmental problems higher in their lives. Mr. Dalai also added that in Chandigarh, it’s expected from all of us not to pollute land, air and water. This we can easily do by just walking and cycling for shorter distances, strictly saying ‘NO’ to single use plastics, proper segregation and disposal of our waste, switch-off electrical & electronic items when not required, use of solar systems, plantation of saplings, avoiding consumerism, conserving water and making people around you aware on these issues of nature and environment care and protection.

Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta, sharing the results of various Inter-School Contests thanked the judges namely Mr. Sandeep Joshi, Kulbhushan Kanwar, Sarabjeet Kaur, Zorawer Perher, Ajat Mittal, Pankaj Sharma and other team members for their contributions to judge hundreds of entries and inspire the young students.
