CHANDIGARH,08.02.20-Today dated 8th February 2020, A Clean the Air Campaign held at sector 40 by Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee. Around 250 residents participated in the campaign. Shri T. C. Nautiyal IFS - Member Secretary presided over the campaign in presence of Area Councillor Smt. Gurbax Rawat. They sensitised residents about Air pollution and distributed air purifying plants to them. They also spread a word to avoid single use polythenes & distributed cloth bags. A team of youngsters had presented a play(nukkar natak) about saving our environment. Shri Nautiyal ji said that it is a responsibility of every citizen to avoid air pollution and it’s good that now citizens & councillors are stepped forward in support of it. Walking or use of cycle for reaching nearby places could reduce air pollution in city. Smt. Rawat apprised that cleanliness of air is equally important. She requested citizens to avoid vehicle idling & asked to switch off the vehicle engine if not in move. Pollution by vehicle idling is having elevated affects on health of children & other people especially during pickup or drop by parents to schools. She has also proposed CPCC to initiate a campaign to implement “No idling Zones” in or outside schools of city for which she has already given a written request to the Adviser to Administrator. An NGO of the area FOSWA’s president Sh. V. N. Sharma has whole heartedly supported the campaign. Event ended with Vote of thanks by RWA members of MIG 2, sector 40 C.
