Ludhiana 27 December 2019-A one day training course on "Optimal reproductive management of dairy animals" to SC/ST dairy farmers for upliftment of small scale dairy sector in the state under the scheme RKVY-12-DEE was organised by the department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics at village Jhundan. The training was conducted under the auspices of Dr Harish Kumar Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU Ludhiana with keen interest in growth of small scale dairy farming in the state. Course Director, Dr Prahlad Singh, Head, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics said that reproductive problems among dairy animals are main obstacles in growth of dairy industry in Punjab, therefore such trainings must be organized to improve management of dairy animals reared by small farmers. A total 50 SC/ST candidates attended the training. A good number of females also turned up for the training.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shahbaz Singh Dhindsa urged the participants to regularly deworm their animals, feed mineral mixture and adopt artificial insemination as a method of mating to improve breed characters of the animals. He also elaborated in detail about care of pregnant animals to reduce the calving disorders and to improve subsequent milk production. Dr Simrinder Singh Sodhi stressed upon rearing good quality animals with true breed characteristics and also explained the criteria for selection of dairy animals at the time of purchase.

During training, University literature kits, mineral mixture and certificates were also distributed to the trainees. Sarpanch of village, S. Bhupinder Singh, thanked the University team for selecting their village for organizing the training and appreciated the University services. Farmers requested to conduct more such trainings in their area so that poor dairy farmers may get linked to the University. Course Director Dr Prahlad Singh said that experts of GADVASU Dr Honparkhe and Dr Ajeet Kumar shall remain in touch with the trainees to address their queries in future.
