Faridkot, March 23, 2022: Under its #Mission1000Beds initiative, YouWeCan Foundation, run by international cricketing icon Yuvraj Singh, has set up 120 Critical Care Unit (CCU) beds at the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot. The initiative has been taken in partnership with IndusInd Bank, which has donated over INR 1.92 Crores towards this cause. Apart from the CCU Beds, a variety of medical equipment,including10 ICU ventilators, 30 BiPAP machines, 2 ECG machines and2 defibrillators, has been donated to the hospital.

Dr. Raj Bahadur said that we have received 120 Beds, 10 Ventilators, 2 ECG Machines, 120 Multipara and all this have been installed in a newly constructed building, which is dedicated to COVID patients and that is why the ward is named as “YouWeCan Ward”. While appreciating the gesture of foundation, he assured that the facility will be used to its maximum and in case, the COVID patients are not there, then as expected by the Foundation, facilities can be used for Cancer Patients also.

This contribution of YouWe Foundation has significantly strengthened the infrastructure of the Hospital.

Yuvraj Singh joined the inauguration ceremony virtually and in a video message on this occasion, he said,“I extend my heartiest congratulations to each and every individual who has been a part of this initiative. Thank you for all your support and good wishes.”

Regarding the Mission 1000 Beds initiative, Yuvraj Singh said,“Mission 1000 Beds is an innovative, rapid response project that we initiated when the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak. Beyond COVID-19, the infrastructure built through #Mission1000 Beds will support cancer care requirements for the next 10 years.”

Mission1000 Beds initiative was launched by YouWeCan Foundation in partnership with OneDigital Entertainment on June 1, 2021 as a hospital capacity expansion solution to rapidly scale up critical care capacity of Government hospitals across India. Through this rapid response and low-cost initiative,COVID-19 critical care facilities, includingoxygenated beds, ventilators and BiPAP machines, have been set up at 14 Government hospitals across 11 states to increase existing capacities.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the new facility, Dr. Shilekh Mittal, Medical Superintendent, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College & Hospital Faridkot, said,"We have received 120 beds along with other equipment for our hospital from the YouWeCan Foundation. The facility created by the YouWeCan Foundation will help us cater to more number of COVID patients if the next wave comes. Until then, the facility will be utilized by the needy patients in the hospital."

About YouWeCan Foundation

The YouWeCan Foundation is a non-profit organization established by international cricketer and cancer survivor Yuvraj Singh. The Foundation empowers people, especially those from the underprivileged sections of the society, to fight cancer through Cancer Screening Programmes, Cancer Awareness Programmes, YouWeCan Cancer Treatment Fund and YWC Scholarship for Cancer Survivors.

Till date, 1,50,000 people have been screened by the Foundation for different types of cancer, 1,25,000 students have been sensitized in anti-tobacco workshops, 30,000 women have been sensitized on self-breast examination and 24,000 men have been counselled for tobacco cessation. Moreover, 150 cancer survivor students have been supported through the YouWeCan Scholarship. In October 2021, YouWeCan Foundation launched the ‘SwasthMahila, Swasth Goa’ initiative in partnership with the SBI Foundation and the Government of Goa. Under this initiative, free breast cancer screening will be done for 1 lakh women in Goa, thereby ensuring that 50% of the age eligible female population in the state is screened.

In 2020, with the onset of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation mobilized over 1 million hygiene kits to COVID-19 affected states across the country.
