Chandigarh, 08thMarch 2022-“Women are torch bearers of future generations” said Shri Rajinder Chaudhry, Additional Director General (ADG), PIB Chandigarh during a Seminar-cum-interactive session organized today by Press Information Bureau, Chandigarh on the occasion of International Women Day. The seminar, organized in UT State Guest House, saw participation of women representatives from varied field of media.

After felicitating women representatives, Shri Rajinder Chaudhry, ADG, PIB Chandigarh in his welcome address said that International Women's Day is celebrated to recognise the efforts of women in our lives. Shri Chaudhry said that presence of different forms of biases against the women in terms of pay parity, availability of resources, etc. are still prevalent in modern society and celebrations of Women's Day is a good platform to address such issues. During the seminar, he encouraged the participants to go to the grassroots level to bring forth women-centric issues to the public.

Delivering her keynote address, Smt. Amarjit Kaur, Sr. Regional Director, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India (GoI) said that legal provisions like PNDT Act, MTP Act etc. and health care facilities have helped to control the rate of female foeticide. She briefed the participants about various women-centric programmes of Government of India.

Stressing on the need for women education, Ms. Ruchika Khanna from The Tribune said that she never felt being delegated to an inferior position in her career and responsibility & empowerment go hand-in-hand. Ms. Sumesh Thakur from Dainik Jagran shared her inspirational journey with the participants.

Ms. Shivani from Red FM said empowerment does not mean to act like a man and women need recognition for their achievement to uplift their status in society. Ms Nanu Joginder Singh from Dainik Bhaskar stressed family’s support for a woman to excel in her chosen field.

Ms Veena Tiwari from Amar Ujala, Ms. Manisha Gangoti from Radio Mirchi, Ms. Swati Munjal from Chandigarh Administration, Ms. Saxena Aakansha from DDK, Chandigarh, Ms, Megha from Big FM, Ms. Ashwarya Khosla from Hindustan Times along with other women officials from Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB) shared their opinions during the interaction.
