Ludhiana 20 December 2021-Fourteen graduates of College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana (GADVASU) joined as Fisheries officers (FOs) in the Department of Fisheries, Punjab after receiving their appointment letters from Sh. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister, Punjab. Highlighting the scope of fisheries development in the state and efforts made by the state government to uplift the sector, the minister urged the newly recruited FOs to serve the department with full energy and dedication.

Congratulating the appointees, Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean, College of Fisheries, GADVASU expressed that fisheries graduates of the university are fully competent to address existing challenges and execute required action plans to ensure optimized utilization of available aquatic resources in the state in a responsible manner. She informed that collaborative ties between the university and the fisheries department will be strengthened to serve the farming community with a stronger extension service network for enhanced output. With promotional schemes under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) of Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (GOI), there is a huge scope of developing aquaculture activities in Punjab for livelihood, employment and revenue generation, she added.

Sh. Rajinder Kumar Kataria, Director and Warden Fisheries, Department of Fisheries Punjab welcomed the new appointees and complimented them for their enthusiasm to serve the department. He said that the department of fisheries intends to transform the fisheries sector of the state into a prospective industry through freshwater and saline water aquaculture activities and hence, look forward to the proficient fishery graduates to achieve the envisaged targets.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU also expressed his credence to the efforts made by the university in augmenting professional competency of its graduates, so that they may serve their respective sectors effectively with a strong knowledge base and expertise. Dr. Singh further added that youth shall come forward to explore the vibrant field of fisheries offering promising national/international career opportunities in public/private sector and entrepreneurship as well.
