Ludhiana 10 December 2021-A National Symposium on “Scientific interventions to address challenges for sustainable buffalo production” began with deliberations on buffalo development today, on December 10, 2021, at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. The event was organised by the College of Veterinary Science (COVS), GADVASU in collaboration with Indian Society for Buffalo Development (ISBD), Hisar and supported by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Government of India.

Dr. S. P. S. Ghuman, organizing secretary of the symposium and Dean, COVS welcomed the participants and revealed that more than 200 participants from across the country have registered for this scientific rendezvous. The inaugural session was presided by Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU. In the presidential remarks, he mentioned that buffalo production plays a pivotal role and significantly contributes to the country’s economy. He also highlighted that such events provide opportunities to scientists and students for the dissemination and exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Dr. Gurbachan Singh, Former Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, New Delhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He congratulated the scientists for their contributions in improving buffalo sector of the country. Dr. S.K. Ranjhan, Hind Agro Ltd. Industries, Guest of Honour praised the organisers for organising this scientific event. Dr. S.S. Dahiya, President, ISBD highlighted the role played by this society in uplifting veterinary profession and livestock industry.

During the inaugural ceremony, compendium of scientific papers was also released. Dr. P. S Yadav, Secretary, ISBD shared his experiences in the field of livestock sector. Dr. V. K Dumka concluded the inaugural session with vote of thanks and mentioned that the event will continue for next day also. He acknowledged Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. SPS Ghuman, organising Secretary and Dr. Dahiya, President, ISBD for their kind support to organize this event. The plenary session was addressed by distinguished guest speakers from different parts of the country.

Two sessions were conducted in the afternoon. In these sessions, scientists and students presented their research findings; they discussed about several aspects related to the physiology, reproduction, breeding, and genetics in the buffalo sector. During this symposium scientists were honoured with different awards. Dr. Nityanad Pathak and Dr Balbir Singh Puniya received Lifetime Achievement award for their contribution in the field of buffalo development. Dr. T.K Dutta, Dr. S. S Paul and Dr. S.P.S Ghuman were decorated with Distinguished Scientist Award. Dr. Ashok Kumar Balhara and team, as well as Dr. Prem Singh Yadav and team were bestowed with the Best Team Award.
