Ludhiana 23 August 2021-Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized two-week training course on Dairy Farming for rural youth of the state. A total of 16 trainees including one farm woman participated in training programme. The trainees were given basic theoretical as well as practical knowledge about starting a new venture in dairy farming. The important topics included selection and identification of dairy breeds and breeding strategies, shelter management, feeding management, reproductive management and, marketing and value addition of dairy produce.

The concluding session of the training was chaired by Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the varsity. He interacted with the trainees and motivated them by elucidating some success stories of progressive dairy entrepreneurs. He stressed upon the need of adopting dairy farming as business enterprise. Since, Punjab is the breeding tract of dairy animals, the farmers can also set up a venture for selling good quality germplasm of dairy animals throughout the country.

Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education also graced the occasion. He told the audience about various activities undertaken by the University. He explained how this directorate helps the livestock farmers of the state in imparting latest technical knowledge at an affordable price. He advised the farmers to remain in regular touch with the University to get benefit from various utility services.

Dr R K Sharma, Prof-cum-Head, Department of Veterinary Animal Husbandry Extension Education interacted with the trainees and advised them to do proper planning for suitable land, breeding of high yielding dairy animals and balanced feeding. He stressed on use of indigenous herbal preparations rather than allopathic medication. He also delivered a lecture on identification of sick and healthy animals, appropriate use of antibiotics and care and management of pregnant animals.

Dr. Y.S. Jadoun and Dr. Gurjot Kaur Mavi coordinated the whole training course. Participants received the certificates in this concluding ceremony.
