Chandigarh, November 28: Today, celebrating ‘Buy Nothing Day’, Department of Environment & Yuvsatta-NGO organized at Butterfly Garden, Sector 26, an Inter-School Best out of Waste Contest. In which following all COVID protocols 75 students from 23 prominent Schools of the city participated. The Chief Guest of the event was Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, CCF cum Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration.

Enjoying the sun & shades of Butterfly Garden and displaying their creativity with love for the environment the students using waste material like plastic bottles, newspaper, cardboard, glass, and old shoes etc. created innovative pieces of art.

Sh. Debendra Dalai, appreciated the imagination of young students and motivated them to reduce the waste to save planet Earth. He also appreciated the ability of the students to think and organize their thoughts to create such beautiful art objects. He further motivated them to ‘Be the Change’ and inculcate in their lifestyle the 3R’s of refuse, reduce and recycle for a better world.

The six top winners of Inter-School Best out of Waste Contest were; Lakshmi Narayan of New Public School, Ashish of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 8B, Raman Kumar of MRA Sr. Sec. Model School, Pooja Kumari of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 39C, Aditya Chauhan of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 37B, Chandigarh and Kanav Khurana of DC Model Sr. Sec. School, Panchkula.

On the occasion five top five winners of an online Inter-School Poster Making Contest on theme of ‘3R’s for Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’ were also honoured by Mr. Dalai and they were; Anshika Sharma of Manav Mangal High School, Enaya from Bhavan Vidyalaya, Himanshu Bhatti of GMSSS, Sec 39 C, Ojasvi Gupta from Sacred Heart Sr. Sec. School and Phelaaz Singh of St. Joseph Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh.

The judges of the event were senior artist Sh. Romesh Malhotra and environmentalist Sh. Kulbhushan Kanwar. Sharing her thoughts Mrs. Raj Bala the NSS activity incharge of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 15C, thanked officials of the Department of Environment and volunteers of Yuvsatta-NGO for bringing students and teachers out for such an inspiring endeavour promoting green living. She added that due to COVID situation the students have participated physically for the first time for such an event in the last six months. Sh. Debendra Dalai promised that they’ll be organizing such programmes quite often in the future.
