CHANDIGARH,01.10.20-The local unit of the Indian Dietetic Association (IDA) and Nutrition Society (NSI) of India in association with NetProFan celebrated Poshan Maah by organizing a series of activities at PGI, Chandigarh.

On the occasion of Poshan Maah, our Hon'ble Prime Minister, Government of India announced the following themes :Identification and tracking of children with severe Malnutrition (SAM). Plantation drive for Promotion of kitchen garden under “Poshan Ke Liye Paudhe”

Keeping in view of the theme, Ms. Sunita Mlhotra, Convenor, IDA and NSI Chandigarh Chapter and Head Department of Dietetics along with her team members organized various activities during Poshan Maah.

Department of Dietetics, PGI, Chandigarh organized its 1st webinar on 22nd September' 2020 by inviting an eminent speaker Prof. Jagmeet Madan, the National President of IDA, on the topic “FODMAP Diet- Indian perspective. FODMAP Diet is good for Irritable Bowel Syndrome patients. The prevalence of IBS in India is 4 % to 15 %. Approx 1500 delegates joined through various virtual platforms.

On 24th September' 2020 a Plantation drive was organized in the Dietetics Department where all Dieticians and food handlers at the Department of Dietetics planted herbal and kitchen garden plants (tulsi, mint, ajwain, giloy, alovera, mulberry plant, green chilli plant and tomato) in earthen pots on the theme “Poshan Ke Liye Paudhe” drive.

The next webinar was organized on 26th September' 2020 as a community outreach program for Anganwadi Workers as well as beneficiaries on balanced diet and to improve immunity through proper diet during COVID-19. Chief Dietician and Senior Dietician, PGI, Chandigarh apprised all the participants regarding appropriate Poshan to all of them by virtual means. Around 150 delegates participated in this event.

The month-long campaign of Poshan Maan concluded with a webinar organized by the Department of Dietetics on the topic “Nutritional Intervention for optimum perinatal and Postnatal outcome”. Eminent Speaker Dr. Lata Sashi, Chief Consulting Nutritionist, Fernandez Hospital, Hyderabad was invited as speaker in this webinar. Approx 150 delegates participated by virtual means.
