SHIMLA,06.08.20-Celebrating the 70th year of adoption of The Indian Constitution, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla organized a vibrant Colloquium on 5th August, 2020. Prof S.S Jaswal, Registrar of HPNLU, Shimla welcomed the panel consisting of Prof(Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Prof (Dr.) R. K. Kohli, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central University, Punjab, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surinder Singh Thakur (Retired) Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh and Dr. Sanjay Sood, IFS( Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests).

Today’s Colloquium was an effort to celebrate article 51A(h): the 8th Fundamental Duty which is very unique to India: Fundamental duty to develop scientific temper, humanism, spirit of enquiry and reform. Various panelists expressed their views on rationality, reasoning and lack of belief in any dogma, superstition or manifest falsehood.The conclusion drawn is to inculcate this aptitude and temperament amongst ourselves and amongst the youth and this should be the foundation of any education system. The very pertinence of this duty is seen nowadays especially in Covid-19 Pandemic which has created a turmoil and a havoc everywhere around the world. At this time, it is this duty that can challenge the fear of unknown.
